I have heard that a lot. I know a lot of you are from different counties. Do you believe it? The ones that are american, do you resent it?

I have to admit that America isn't the country it should be. I was born and I live here but I have heard better from other countries like Canada. It seems like they are in better order then America is.

Carolee That's why we have to get to know our other earth members and try to correct American when the stereotype other countries ofcourse in a nice way.I have traveled around a bit and have met people from different countries and have found that if you embrace their difference and value them I've made lots of friend and I would hope that each of them would go away with a good feeling about Americans. If they do think that I don't resent it.I can not waste my energy on things I can not change but given the oportunity I will try to change their minds.Americans are different the French,Italians,Scots,English,Irish etc because we have our own ways of doing things.I'll be checking back to see the answers to this question you have asked. i don't really get what it means. i think theyre derogatory words for people of all nationalities, and of course most of those bashing words arent true for anyone. Its just a way for the person saying it to feel better about themselves.

I have never heard the expression, whether or not it would bother me would depend on if it is Ugly as in comeliness vs homeliness or if it is Ugly as in a nasty attitude.

Being on of those 'Ugly Americans', I am very interested in seeing how other people perceive us and why. I understand our great leader (yes, that is arcasm) Pres. Bush gives us all a bad name, but most of us didn't vote for him and don't even like him.

All are not good , all are not bad. refering a community bad or slanging them is i belive a job of most disgust. i dont belive in the term bad americans or ugly english. i belive in every person ther is good and there is evil, so we must try to dominate the evil so that our good part is highlighted.

We went on our honeymoon to Peru. The group we were in had 2 Brits, and 2 Brazilians and 3 American college students, and my husband and I (also american) plus our Peruvian tour guide. One night over the fire, we decided to play a game called "stereotypes" Not very PC, but we discussed what OTHER cultures presume of other cultures. Things like British have bad teeth and bad taste in food, Americans are all rich, loud, and obnoxious and fat. It was interesting to learn what other cultures thought of each other. And no, Americans do not have a good reputation, and we shouldn't be proud of that.

there's an "ugly American" just like there's ugliness in every society and culture, not all Americans can be categorized this way and it's not even an exact definition of anything.. I guess it mostly apply about many Americans don't know or care much about what goes on in the rest of the world but this is not what all Americans are like..
