What's the real purpose in dating?

Many people say that the purpose in dating is to get to know people, explore other personalities, or simply just for fun. For future purposes? Well, at my age, most teens nowadays date. They say that the one they're dating might be the one whom they can really get serious with. Get serious with what? I mean, are they ready to commit into a serious relationship then end up in marriage later? I don't believe them when they say that. I, too, am confused about the real purpose in dating or in commiting to relationships. To find the right one right? But how will you ever find the right one when there are still a lot of priorities in life like school, careers.. and the time where you still get to develop yourself, your relationships with friends, your family, and God??? I've had relationships before, but they're all worthless because both of us (me and my partner) were'nt ready to commit into a serious relationships. What then is the purpose of getting involve with someone without really wanting to commit into a serious relationship? What's the real purpose in dating? I think it's hard to get intimate with someone without knowing what level of committment they're in or they want... Practically dangerous, right? What do you think?

I think when yo uare a teenager the purpose of dating is to learn about other people and relationships and also about the type of relationship you might eventually want. It is only about getting to know each other in order to make a serious commitment when you get much older.

Perhaps.. But dating's a teasing activity.. If I want to get to know other people, I could - but as friends.. or group activities.. It need not be dating, right?

I am not sure either about the purpose of Dating, but I think it is just because to know each other well enough, not to committ anything but if everything goes right than the people can get in serious situations and talk about long relationships or marriages.

I see what you are saying. I think you dont have to always be looking for someone to get really serious with or marry, but in dating you find out a lot of things. You grow as a person, you find out a lot of things about yourself. You find out what you really want and look for in a person, etc.

I think that dating is learning, having experiences with different people.. And also searching for your other half.. But when one is still young, they may have a different impression on dating depending on their level on thinking.. Some may date, as you say to get serious hoping that the person they're dating with could be the one they want to spend their whole life with.. I think that dating is just a step to a new more intimate relationship, I agree with what you say but I think before one commits he/she should know the level of commitment his/her partner wants..
