Gender issues?

We always categorize ourselves as men and women. They can't be just friends. In many regions, they are completely separate entities not allowed to interact. I mean isn't this wrong? Once you are married, social pressures increase. Then there is also a thing that men and female should be certain way. Their habits, thinking and action should be in this set parameter, different from the other gender. What is the effect of this on society? What if a person is different from others? What if s/he doesn't do things like other people's do? Can't we just think ourselves as humans first?
