Okay, I will admit, I am a 30 year old wife and mother of three but I cannot stop biting my nails. I started when I was two and have tried everything I can think of to stop and have failed. I paint my nails with clear polish and that works for a bit but then I find that I have chewed off the polish and then BAM! half my nails are chewed to bits. I don't even realize I am doing it most of the time. I know it's a bad habit, I must have the shortest nails in the world, but I can't seem to kick the habit. Any suggestions? Did you used to be a nail biter but have since reformed? I need help!

I use to bite my nails everytime I was nervous or upset about something. I stopped by cutting my nails really short and not leaving anything to be chewed on. If I am in the mood to have long nails, I have acrylics put on. They aren't easy to chew through and usually your teeth will start hurting if you try for to long. Acrylics have really helped me kick the habit of nail biting.

Thanks for the advice but my nails are already so short there isn't anything to cut. My nails don't make it anywhere near the end of my finger, the longest nail would have to be the thumb and it is just over 1/4 of an inch long. I tried to have acrylics put on but I didn't have enough original nail for them to work with.

i was also a nail biter when i was a kid. i know the feeling of intentionally putting polish to avoid biting my nails. yes, i've also chewed off the polish! my mom always warned me that she would put chili on my nails to stop me from it. she never did. i'm still a nail biter but not as profusely as before. i've observed that i bite my nails when i'm in the movie house watching a suspense movie or when i have nothing to chew. my nails become the popcorn. haha. i also nail bite when i'm stressed or jittery. 1/8 inch nails are crazy! i think you need to relax. i mean try to observe, when do you bite your nails. is it when you're not busy with anything or when you're stressed?

i know how you feel. i think i also bite my nails often when my hands are idle. i don't think it's caused purely by stress because sometimes i don't even realize that i'm doing it. i've heard that thing about smokers. just be sure you don't gain weight because of substituting food with your nails. i'd stick to my nails, at least it won't make me fat. haha.
