Have you been in a disaster? Do you know someone who has? I have been in the area of disasters several times.. The closest was Hurrican Rita that decided to put a hundred foot tree thru our front porch.. All thought we were able to make repairs fairly quickly it sure did scare the heck out of us when it happened.. We had been watching that tree for sometime and with 90= mile an hour winds outside we couldn't do much about it.. Then with one good gust we heard the snap and waited for the crash.. And it did crash.. Luckily it went catty corner across our porch so it only damaged a corner of it.. But boy let me tell you it sounded like alot worse and it really shook the whole house.. We wound up having to go out in the ferous wind and chopping off part of it so it wouldn't do more damage.. And that also scared me to death.. I was waiting for the next one to fall.. My husband and I took care of the business and ran back in the house as fast as we could let me tell you.. There was alot of damage all around us alot worse though so we thanked God and when it was over started helping people as fast as possible... The power and all utilities were off for 2 weeks.. But luckily we have a generator so as soon as it passed we turned it on.. Our gas bill ran $300 dollars for that 2 weeks.. We had several neighbors camping with us for a week until FEMA could get in here to help.. There was power lines down and running across roads and trees everywhere.. It was quite an experience.. How was your experience?? Tammy

It's a distressing experince, nothing happened to me personally but i witnessed one big fire that destroyed many houses and two minors ones that were controlled and extinguished easily..

My dad was a fireman before he retired. I went with him to watch a few times when he took me with him to pick up his check on days off. And yes all the running around and sounds was scary to me and my dad had me a safe distance away on the sidelines. So I understand. Thank goodness you were safe. Tammy

We had a personal disaster. You had company however we went through ours alone. We had a housefire. 3 summers ago. We did not know what we were going to do so we set up a tent. The neighbors were sweet and called the Red Cross and so we got lucky and got 6 days at a hotel. I ended up with a job since I went begging for one. Well the our bank we met with said that the house was worthless to them. The 43 acres and house is totally paid for. We applied for a grant after paying taxes for 20+years and was turned down. We have been living in this leaky trailer. Anyway, I then got an office job earning 200 dollars a week and Ameriquest took us through the whole process and then would not take our calls. Still don't know what is wrong with us to be turned down. Lastly the 700 club turned us down. Never thought in a million years that they would turn their back on someone like us. So our disaster is still happening. The house is totally fixable and as of yet we are still getting some food assistance and working all we can for the bit of money we get to pay for propane, that is on a budget, electricity, the consolidation payment and raise two kids. We are still suffering and yet we plod on slightly hopeful that the end will be somewhere in sight.

If I remember correctly I think the worse was hurricane Hugi because it was my first experience with hurricanes. Now I am pretty used to them.

the closest i've come to being in one was choosing to pay a power bill instead of going to the station nightclub to see great white. my brother and i had planned to go,but we had changed our mind. 3 people i knew got killed in the fire though :(

well, i consider the company i worked for before as a real disaster! it treated the employees terribly, as if they were dealing with slaves! it didnt pay us on time, and if it did, it was usually half pay, not the full amount, and with post dated checks...and they had the gall to treat employees badly! And our social security contributions were not being remitted, as well as our taxes! those people are shameless and im truly ashamed that i worked for those people! They havent paid any of their loans for the three years they were in business...and during all the time i was there, revenues were definitely increasing as well as our workload. it is the most mismanaged company ever. it is just a very small company but management behaved AS IF it were the size of IBM or GM!!!! such arrogance!
