hospital mistakes

my daughter was born 3 months preemature and spent 2 months in the hospital. the day after she got home from the hospital we had to take another trip to the hospital for a weekend. while the first 2 month stay she was being fed breast milk that i was pumping, the hopital made a mistake and fed her formula the day before and the day she came home. this made her sick and that's why we ended up back at the hospital. i was not impressed with the hospital. the day they started the formula i had been in there. i asked if there was enough breast milk. they said yes there is too much your going to have to take some back hom when you pick her up. they didn't check they just assumed and no one called me to come in and bring some more, they never bothered to notify me and just went ahead against my first wishes and gave her formula. i know it might not seem major but when your dealing with a preemie these things can really make a difference. i also had another problem. i was at the hospital every day, but when i'd call before i went to bed at night to see how she was the nurses would just say she's good and that's it. then i got a call saying she'd be comming home in 2 days. i got so excited and got everything ready, the next day they tell me oh the nurse made a mistake she can't come home yet she's still having apnea spells (where she stops breathing and has to be recesatated). anyway i was told the nurse didn't look at the chart before telling me this. i was so upset. she got my hopes high and then they were crushed. then the problem arised where i told them but how come i wasn't told about the apnea spells. every time i call they say she's doing good. to me that's not doing good. i was being blown off on the phone when they encourage you to call as many times a day as you need to. has anyone else had any problems with the care of your children at hospitals.

I have to say that I have not had any of these problems and am sorry you did. I hope your daughter is in good health now. I do enjoy you stories about her since my daughter is sixteen now she is not as amusing. At sixteen she knows it all and you just can't talk to her. Your little girl sounds like a doll.

I am sorry to hear that you had so many problems with the hospital. Both of my kids were in NICU and both had awesome care. There were one or two nurses overall that weren't as nice as the others but for the most part, everyone was awesome. I'd call several times a day (when I first woke up and before I went to bed every night at least) and I was at the hospital every day. The nurses were glada I was there to help with daily care and just to keep my little ones company. I always got detailed information when I called, they read stuff from the chart if they weren't sure, and I always knew that they really knew who they were talking about!
