Have any of you ended a friendship? How did that work out? Are you no longer friends to this day?

Yup - a close friend. She is an only child and always wanted things her way to her timetable. Her time was always more valuable than anyion elses. She stood me up on a particulrly bad week and that was it. That was several years ago. I see her occasionally as we have some mutual friends still. We say hello and that's about it. The interesting thing is I'm much happier and less stressed with her out of my life. I never realized what an energy vampire she was until she was gone... I believe that friends come and go in our lives and that's normal - whatever learning she and I needed from each other is over and we move onto new friends, new relationships and new learning. I wish her well but don't miss her at all.

I have ended a friendship. It was my best friend from elementry school, we were friends until we were about 22. My husband and hers were also friends. She and her husband got divorced and we kinda lost touch with each other. I don't really feel the need to reconnect with her. She was not a very supportive person.

I have ended a relationship by telling the person that if they continued to talk crap behind my back that it was over between us. He continued to talk crap after being very apogetic. I told him that he is a pathological liar and I haven't talked to him since then and it has been about three years.

I have never terminated a friendship in anger. I have let a friendship fade away, though. Sometimes people just drift apart and get different interests. I have been lucky because I have not had a big fight and break-up with a friend. That would be very stressful and upsetting. However, if the situation warranted it (my friend was acting very bad) I would take that action. I'm just glad I haven't had to ever.
