Did Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos Deserve There 11 and 12 Year Prison Sentences

You all very well know of the case of Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos. They shot an illegal drug smuggler who was carrying 743 pounds of Narcotics They were tried for doing this and the illegal Mexican drug smuggler was given immunity for testimony. Do you in any way think this was fair? in terms of them getting the sentences they did and the drug smuggler getting immunity?
