Do you have a phobia that absolutely leaves you paralyzed or hysterical?

My phobia is spiders, very common. I can handle just about anything else, snakes, bugs, lizards, whatever. But spiders do me in, everytime. I used to be so arachnaphobic that even teeny-tiny spiders would leave me in tears. I have since gotten past that and can squish the little buggers without thinking twice. But if I come acoss something bigger, like a wolf spider, I totally lose it. My husband thinks it is funny, my reaction, but he doesn't seem to realize exactly what I am going through. I get chills, start to sweat, can't breathe, my heart is in my throat, I shake uncontrollably, get hysterical, crying and screaming. If I see the spider and it moves, even a fraction of an inch, I want to throw up. If the spider is in my house, I can't sleep for days, I'm constantly thinking, "Is it dead? Are there more? Will I wake up and feel it crawling on me?" I can't stand spiders. What is your fear/phobia that really sets you off?

I'm sorry spiders are the worst for you, mine is wasps, even the word makes me feel sick, it's not even as if I've ever been stung, so I don't have a rational reason.

I have never been stung either, thank goodness. I know what you mean about not having a rational reason; I have never been attacked or crawled on by a spider, what is the big deal? I don't understand it, I just run from it!

I am absolutely terrified of clowns and flying cockroaches. Get this, last Christmas, our company celebrated with the theme Carnivale. There were so many clowns I fainted from fear.

That is so terrible! I am also afraid of clowns but I have gotten better. The worst time for me is when the town has the Thanksgiving/Christmas parades and the clowns always want to come up to my kids. When I see them heading our way I pass my kids off to another family memeber and melt into the crowd behind me.

I also have severe arachnaphobia. I react just like you do. However (and some of this is probably related to my OCD), if a spider has been in the house I can't touch the place where the spider was (sometimes for years, depending on how traumatic the experience was). I can't touch pictures of spiders. I can't look at them on TV. I don't even like saying the word. I have nightmares about them. I don't like to hear people talking about them because it tends to make me have nightmares. It's pretty debilitating at times.
