Is this normal?

March 22, 2007 7:53am CST
I have just answered a post related to waking up and have wondered whether this is normal or another of my list of wierd things that are happening to me! When I wake up I am often quite disorientated... Itt akes me a few minutes to actually decide what day it is and I often have to look at the teletext on tv to be sure! I never used to have this problem! Does anyone else suffer with it?

No, not me. Are you getting enough sleep? Or taking sleep meds? That might be part of the reason.

I am always tired but put that down to having very active children. (and being a single mum!) No I don't take any sleeping meds.

yes i have this problem as well however only when im under alot of stress. there was even one night while my stress levels were exremely high that i woke up in the middle of the night and was blind! i even touched my eyes to make sure they were open. after about 5 mins though my eye sight returned again. another thing that may be causing this for you is that if you wake up during REM sleep people are often left very disoriented.

You might want to mention this to a doctor. I have had this problem for quite a long time. He eventually sent me to a neurologist. The neurologist sent me for a sleep study and it turned out that I have sleep apnea. With sleep apnea, your brain is deprived of oxygen. This can cause excessive tiredness, disorientation and/or general confusion among other symptoms.

During my sleep study they found out that I had stopped breathing over 150 times during the night. I now use a breathing machine called a C-pap at night. It helps to assure that I don't stop breathing at night. They are still adjusting the air pressure, but I am already feeling much better.

Sleeping and then getting disoriented. - Sleeping and then getting disoriented. I mean I feel I was sleeping at some different place.
manyatimes I go to sleep someplace different and then wake up the next day and be disorientated. Yes, I have that all of the time. It's my body being use to seeing the same image when I wake up. Be it my ceiling, or my alarm clock. Then suddenly I spend the night over your friends, and it's thier cieling and at first you're like oh my god, WHERE THE HELL AM I?!! heh.. it's wierd ya.
