First (visual) impressions.

Alright, what do you guys think about first impressions? Personally, I think that people place too much importance on the impact of first impressions. You really can't judge someone accurately by the first few seconds of seeing or talking to them - you need to get to know them, at least a little bit. Judging someone solely by appearance leads to a lot of people missing out on the company of some really amazing individuals. The focus a lot of people have on appearance also creates a sort of blocker that stops some people with really good ideas from ever seeing them implemented. Of course the argument can be made that one should visually conform for the purposes of being able to utilize the resources that the "upper class" does - I frankly think that this is a bit of a false paradigm. Anyhow, how much does the way someone looks affect what you think of them? Do you think different things about the way someone is going to act based on how they look? It can be true to an extant - you can judge the type of language someone is going to use by their appearance, to a certain degree. You can also sometimes judge their taste in music (or at least a portion of it). It is hard, however - if not impossible - to judge the character or intelligence of a person based on their appearance. What do you think?
