Checking this URL: http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2007130233,00.html you can read this terrible new: Sacked because I am a witch By ANTONELLA LAZZERI - March 21, 2007 A SACKED teaching assistant claimed yesterday she was given the boot because she’s a WITCH. Sommer De La Rosa, 34, said school chiefs feared she would brainwash students with her pagan beliefs. She told an employment tribunal: “I was shunned by other teachers because of my faith. “Once they found out I was a white witch they were different towards me. They would only talk to me if it was absolutely necessary.” Ms De La Rosa, who practises pagan religion Wicca, claims one teacher told her to stop wearing her pentagram necklace, a traditional pagan symbol. She was sacked last May after nine months in the religious education and music departments at Dorothy Stringer Secondary School in Brighton, East Sussex. She claims unfair dismissal, but the school and Brighton and Hove Council say she was sacked due to a poor attendance record and “inappropriate disclosures” to students. The tribunal in Hove continues.

I've heard of this. How sad that people still have misconceptions about Wiccans and Pagans. Wiccans aren't neccesarily all witches and it's this ignorance that takes us right back to the dark ages where everything was blamed on the devil and witches, who were of course in cohorts with him. I think this woman would probably have done a better job at teaching religion than most christians since wiccans and pagans are true nature people. lol

Hi Coolgirl, thank you for having responded to this discussion. Yes, it's really sad that things like this can happen in our "free" societies. Paganism.... there are a lot of Pagan paths today, the fast growing one is the Wicca, in U.K. and in U.S. there are thousands of Wicca followers. I live in Italia, so I consider myself a "Mediterranean Pagan", but all the Pagan principles are similar in every Pagan path: we don't have "Holy Writings", we don't believe in the sin, we don't think that there is a God who can give us ethic or moral obligations, we believe in the circularity of life etc. If you have questions about Paganism tell me, I'll be happy to respond to you.
