I've been searching high and low to find out the significance of the star with the number in it beside my name. What does that indicate?

The higher the number means that people really loves you enough to take their time out to rate you a +. Plus, it affects how much you'll earn. A - means that people don't like what you've written and feel some offense to it. A ! means you're just plain...too much for delicate eyes, as we are in a rated PG-13 setting. :D

No, Sazzle, it doesn't mean that. You won't receive a star until you get 100 points. The number of ratings you have received will partly determine what number is in your star when you receive one.
