Grandia, definately. I never played the ps2 versions, but the first one blew me away. You'd probably only get it on eBay, nowadays, though.

I would say Grandia. the first one. I have never played the sequals but the first one is very good. Well aslong as you dont go for graphics in a game. This game is very good yet also very old. Though i found it was very very good. Not as good as Final Fantasy 7 but still very good.

i recommand Grandia series(like Grandia 2,3) on PS2.Their plots ain't as deep as FF,but i am sure you will enjoy another joy in the games' fights, or Golden Sun 1&2 on GBA,they are perfect except the long long long ...dialogue, or MGS series, are not RPG,but plots are greatest.

If you have ps1 then you should try Parasite Eve 2, my favorite game and still playing it over and over again. Also as mentioned suikoden series also good games not on PS1 also on PS2. Its fun and challenging to collect all 108 characters. Xenogears on PS1 has the best storyline ever, more than FFVII. Xenosaga on PS2 also a good game. If you like simulator game, then i recommend Ace Combat.

I can never decide whether I like Xenogears of FFVII better. :) I like the characters in FFVII betterr, I think, but the stoyline of Xenogears is just so much more complexthan I've seen in any other game. The graphics also exceed those of FFVII, but VII had more spots in the story which really affected me on an emotional level.

I would personally recommend Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross and Legend of Dragoon. The Breath of Fire series is also good. Breath of Fire IV is a good game, it has a battle system that's a lot like FFX where you can switch characters whenever you want to.

when i was younger i had a ps1 and a sega saturn and two of the best games i ever played on the saturn were shining the holy ark and panzar dragoon saga, i played both from start to finish and loved them equally and they have got to be two of the best old rpg's along with ff7 so if you have a saturn around maybe try those out, if you don't you could always buy a saturn and the games from ebay for a decent price :-)

One of my personal favorites would have to be Star Ocean: Til the end of Time. I personally consider it better then Final Fantasy, it has gorgeous graphics, and an awesome Story line. The Battle system is much different, but it's really easy to get the hang of if you have ever played any of the previous Star Oceans. Another great game which I happened to rent was Rogue Galaxy. I was a little skeptical at first, but its one of the best Role Playing games I have ever played. Its story is interesting, while it also has some really funny parts to it, like most Role Playing games. Both games are both worth the time and money that you put into them. Star Ocean has extra stuff when you beat the game, so it makes it really long. Rogue Galaxy has almost the same battle system, for the exception of sub-weapons. The only other recommendation I have would have to be any of the Shining Force title, which are usually Tactic games for the exception of Shining Force EX.

I like the Suikoden series and Xenogears, but they are both very different from Final Fantasy. They're still really great games, though. You should try them if you haven't already.
