How I almost fried my computer

I was preparing to re-install windows on my computer, I had a sata raid HD which required installing drivers from a floppy disk. My computer didn't have one, I thought 'simple task to install one'. When I powered up the computer after installing the floppy drive, smoke poured out from the still open computer case. Quickly pulling the plug, I inspected the damage. The red wires running from the power supply too the floppy drive were blacken/burned and melted. I have since replaced the floppy drive and the power supply (to be safe). Any clue as to why this happened? I don't think I overloaded the supply I only added a floppy drive. Has anything like this happened to you?

i could have been overloaded and the reason maybe is that the floppy drive that you've got has the wires shorted. therefore too much current on the wire melted it and possibly damaged your PSU. also check the other hardware cause the overcurrent could have gone to all devices connected to the PSU

I have never had that happen to me but my computor has crashed again on me they say that it is the mother board and I have to have a new on which will cost me about 300.00 for a new on. but I guess that is the price we pay. I think that if I went to a cheaper tower I would not have this problem but I paid alot of money for the tower that I have. good luck getting you back up and running.
