Selfish teenagers

Just let me say beforehand that my teenage daughters, ages 14 and 17 are good students, well-behaved and now, focused on their future. But sometimes, they have a selfish streak that runs a mile wide. I had to get on both of them today about helping out around the house in light of the fact that my husband and I seem to be living in the car shuttling them from one thing to another. The cost of education is skyrocketing and every college the older child looks at is between 30 and 40 thousand a year. Every day we try to figure out ways to cut back on expenses or find more money, and in post Katrina New Orleans, it's very hard to make ends meet? Am I wrong, or should my tolerance for any kind of back talk be anything but a zero?

I think selfishness seems to be the trend these days, people are just so self absorbed it is as if the world revolves only around them...it is a very sad thing these days.
