If our STARS are determined by HOW other members rate us..........

then do you think that is how mylot judges the quality of our discussions and responses for our earnings each day? After reading several different posts about quality and earnings and how their determined I can't help but wonder how much we contribute to our fellow mylotters earnings each day. So my questions to all of you are: 1) Do you think we determine our fellow members earnings? 2) Do you think that's a reason for large fluctuations in our earnings from day to day by those that don't rate regularly? 3) If our responses aren't rated do we get paid for posting them? 4) Do you think that we get less for those responses that aren't rated? (Meaning that we get something just not what would have been given had it been rated.) Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated?

Good morning Beaniefanatic13, It's nice to visit with you again. Hmmm, the great mystery of the earnings algorith. I certainly haven't figured it all out, but I can say without doubt that ratings do affect our earnings. I was involved in a discussion that had less than 20 members reply. There were many posts that had multiple responses. The debate was somewhat controversial and the ratings of the responses must have been quite active, as my earnings were higher the follwing morning than usual. Of course, I have no way of knowing how many ratings I personally received, but the antagonist in that debate had their star rating lowered by three presumably from that thread alone. It's logical to presume that the positive ratings must have been similar in number. So, that example showed me that how we're rated is an earnings factor. I have no solid evidence to support this, but I'm suspecting that posts that exemplify some level of knowledge, rather than just opinion, may be compensated more highly. I've found the tendency to see higher earnings when I've replied to a question where I've had some proficiency or experience in the area. I don't know how Mylot would accomplish this, unless it is that the number of positive ratings determines how helpful the community found the answer. Either that or someone from Mylot reads and rates every post. Which seems highly unlikely. As for your query about whether posts with no ratings are compensated. I suspect that they are, but with greatly reduced compensation. If I knew more, I'd surely share it. But, that's all I've got. Have a super day.!

Good morning Beanie, Thank you for the kind words. It's always a pleasure to enter a discussion with you. Great observation about the older posts. Hmmm, now as I think about it, you're right. My two highest earning days were both part of fresh, current posts with strong activity. I wonder about the rewards of interacting with the really large discussions. I cannot personally speak to the result of engaging a really large discussion. I don't generally enter the discussions with 75 or 100(+) responses. I figure if that many people have already responded, there's probably little left to offer. This may be an erroneous conclusion on my part. And, I'm certainly open to hearing others' perspective on this. Yet, I have to consider that I read all responses before I add my own two cents, so that's just not a good use of time for one with limited time to dedicate. Given the limited time factor, and my desire to dedicate some of that time to seeking out good questions that may not have received any, or very few responses, I wonder what that does to earnings? I imagine it offers little reward for me. But, I hope that it offers the asker a reasonable benefit. So as to give them an incentive to continue to present good, thought-provoking questions. Thanks for sharing your perspectives here. I'm sure it's a big help to all of the Mylot community. A fine day to one and all.

Good afternoon ladyluna, I also rarely participate in discussions that have large amounts of responses, unless they get them after I have replied. I too like to read all the responses and find it to time consuming to read more than 30 responses. The only time that I make exception is when it's dealing with a personal response, then I read through the first 2 or 3 pages and skim the rest prior to posting a response. However I have only responded to one discussion that had more than 100 responses when I arrived and it was some time back and the discussion was 4 months old, so I have no idea if I was even paid for said discussion let alone to have received more. I have noticed in the past few days that I have responded to few discussions but with much more detail (lol yeah I know I'm pretty long winded anyway) and have been greatly surprised at my earnings, they have been higher than I anticipated. I truly thought that the most that you could get was .04 for responding that doesn't seem to be the case. Either that or we actually do get paid for responses, maybe not 1 by 1 but say for every 10 responses we receive an increase. What do you think of that thought? Look forward to your perspective on this.

As always ladyluna a pleasure to have your insight. I agree that the earnings here are a great mystery and it's one of the many reasons that I enjoy checking in here first thing everyday. :) I have recently suspected that the posts that are older that may not get rated may have something to do with earnings. After posting several responses to some quite old discussions. Part of that I think is that some members don't have the alert on even for the notify of new responses to discussions and since some have 100's of pages of discussions it would be very time consuming to go through all of them. I saw that the next day my earnings were far less than what I expected them to be. It wasn't that I posted a lot of responses that day just that many were old and it didn't appear that I got more than a penny for those responses. As you know I don't post small responses, lol, they are quite long. Even my comments. :) I agree that I think that the positive ratings are how mylot accomplishes this. I know that their are to many new discussions and responses everyday for them to be able to go in and read everything and since they rely on the members for everything else it just my opinion that they really on us for this also. :) Welcome back and have a nice day! :)

I really don't know but thank you for this thread and I'm going to read all answers I'm interested in this. I had a blue star and 98/100 I lost it to a red star then got my blue star back the next morning. I've been fighting health issues for the past 2 days in and out of the hostital and now I'm back down to a red star. I'm just not going to worry about it. I have too much on my plate now. I would like answers though...

I'm sorry to see that your star fell back to red again. I really don't know why members feel the need to rate a negative just because someone doesn't agree. I actually read something about people rating a negative out of jealously awhile back, not sure if that was accurate or not, but did make me wonder. I guess I wonder most about what members use the negative for? Many things though must come into affect regarding our earnings. Yesterday's earnings that I received this morning seem to make my discussion here even more relevant.

this whole myLot payment method is a mystery. And I feel it may always remain a mysterty. I don't believe that our ratings dtermine a members earnings. The negative rating is being abused think of the ramifications if we determined others earnings. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!

I dont know what makes them go up and down. But I just know 94 is a point away from 95, which means sadly I am just ONE point from a blue star :( I try rate people high. I hope they so the same. Maybe they I can go blue, I'm so tired of red! :)

I honestly have no idea if our star ratings are related somehow to our earnings. From what I can decipher, you can earn higher rating when members gave you a lot of pluses. My rating is 10 but I don't see any slight differences in my earnings. I always gave a + rating to all those who responded to my threads. In cases like spammers and cheaters, I will report it right away to mylot admin. There's no sense in rating - as we all know the effort it take to give in our well thought responses. :)

I know that I ALWAYS rate every discussion that I respond to positive AND EVERY single response to my discussions. As long as the response is related to the topic posted, even if it is only a one or two liner. I feel like if someone took the time to read my discussion and post a real answer and all they could think of was one-two lines, they deserve credit for it. I have one friend who always post one or two lines but is always a sweet person, I couldn't skip rating this friend. I would hope that our earnings don't depend too much on the ratings we get as I know not everyone is a vigaliant as I am at rating all discussions and responses.

I'm not for sure about it. But I too wonder about this. I take my time to respond to people. I try to be as descriptive as possible. Had a 10 star rating. Thing one day I responded to a topic on religion and what my beliefs were. I'm a pagan and the topic was started by a Christian, the next day I went from 10 to 5 WTF. I think what it boils down to is that if someone don't like something you have to say, even if it is written well, they will go into your postings and responses and rate you negative. At least this is what I think is happening. Slowly I have gotten my star rating back up to 7. I think that if you read something you should respond to it, and rate it. Just because you don't believe the same way someone else does, doesn't mean you should rate negative. How well is the post or response written? That should be what decides if they get a + or - rating. Not if you agree with what they have to say. This is a good topic Beanie, thanks for starting it. BTW I take the time to rate ever response in a discussion that I reply to or start. Do you do that to.

Not sure how the rateing thing goes but if I like the discussion I rate it and if I like a responce I rate that one I was rating every one the read some where you only rate one responce and that one is to be the one you like best! I just plow ahead and respond and post when I think of something and I dont worry about the star or the pay I get along better that way I dont worry about it

First cloud I would like to welcome you to mylot. You won't really find specific information on how or what we earn. Just that to start discussions, respond to discussions and upload pictures to earn, it won't tell you how much or how it's determined to be quality, or who decides on the quality of our work. :)

Interesting questions beanie, for all you know what oyu say must be absolutely right. Mylot does claim that our reputation is determined by the users according to ratings they give us. If that is true then we sure don't earn for the unrated discussions. I've read from many users that they don't bother to rate and all they do is award the best response. But again those ratings could be only determining the "star" rating and not our earnings. We must be getting paid for every response if its rated or not. Quality is defined by each individual so there is no set standard to ascertain that. What's quality to one may not be for another. Before I knew that we had to rate every single response, I think the users were paid for their responses to my discussions. So, maybe rating is not related to ratings but just the reputation as in star rating.

I honestly don't know and will follow this topic myself. I think everyone wants to know the method. I was 86/100 and recently recieved a 87/100. How does it work, was something deleted, who knows. I can say now, from being a 10 to a 9, I have noticed my earnings have dropped, how much, I couldn't even tell you. But, I didn't make as much as I made last month. Thanks for a great topic

As far as I know, I beleive, that the star and the rating does not always determine the amount of money we earn from our post. Although members rating could have an effect. Let's say for an example that my post recieves a lot of positive ratings and all, I doubt i would be paid higher, because the earning is calculated within 24 hours, however, you could still get ratings after 24 hours. However, as far as I know, I believe, that negative ratings could be the reason for earning less. Another reason I guess for the fluctuation in our earnings is the earning of mylot itself. The amount mylot earns per day obviously fluctuates, and so do our earnings. That's what I believe!

I know that I always try to rate the discussions and responses that I read, although I rarely use the - unless I see something that violates the myLot guidelines. Then I report it and rate it down. I give all quality discussions a + and I usually just don't bother rating the one word responses. I would be interested to know if that would account for the large fluctuation though because that may account for some of it. This is a very interesting discussion and I will be checking back to see what other responses you might get.

I wish that their was more information about the ratings buttons. Especially where the older discussions are involved. I would hate to think that I waste my time so to speak answering posts that never get rated. I still respond to the discussions that interest me, but also feel that my responses deserved to be rated after all I took the time to respond the least someone can do is rate me. :)

I think our earnings are related to whether the replies have been rated, if not ,we may not get any credit for them, it can also explain why even we have same number of post of same quality in different days ,but our earnings are quite different which depend on when will the members rate them. I may not rate all the replies just after I get the replies, but i will rate them postive after i read them, iwill not give negative rating because I think it will decrease the earnings of that member.

That is very interesting. I have not heard this theory before. But it does make sense. The longer more established members seem to make more money than us at the bottom. I wonder if that is because everyone rates their discussions. I think I shall keep an eye on this one. It is a shame that mylot will not divulge this information to us.

I'm not sure. I just want to know why I'm a 9 and not a 10. I mean I know it shouldn't but it really bothers me lololol. It has yet to change either. I wonder if you have a low number if it ever gets higher. Who knows. I think mylot only knows really lol.

I am much like the rest here, a bit confused about the stars and numbers, yesterday my star was red and today it is back to yellow - I have no idea why, but it´s not a big deal, I concentrate to have fun here and rate people with + and never a minus, or nothing at all in some cases. Getting good contact with people is the most important and we learn from each other all the time.

No according to MyLot each person makes the same per post, the algorithm works out to where everyone makes .01 per discussion or comment. No one makes more than anyone else unless they are psoting more.

I'm sorry wmg, but I can say that I make more than .01 per post or discussion. I don't start discussions everyday but do respond to discussions sometimes very few and sometimes more but my earnings are most definitely more that a penny a post. Yesterday I responded to 7 discussions and started 1 discussion very late last night, that only had 1 response at 1 a.m. this morning. I did receive 6 best responses yesterday and my earnings were a lot more than I expected this morning (.53). I have noticed that the cut off for me posting is around 12 midnight PST, anything else seems to roll over to the next day. I know there has been speculation on the best responses and does that increase our earnings, by yesterday I would say yes, but other days it doesn't seem to. I would also say that my responses were rated yesterday as the ones that I replied to all have comments either in my responses or further down the page letting me know that the poster is actively involved in their discussions. Of course this is all my 2 cents or speculation as it may be. We will never know how it's calculated. I just thought that I would see what others thought. If it's the case then maybe members will see this and start rating more actively. Just a thought.

well yes and no..depending on how they respond to every discussions and vice versa in posting..i rate when i respond always i dont know if it helps but by marking as best response maybe..nope i dont think so we get less maybe because we have responded some discussions that have been deleted after detection of double posting orhave discussed already previously...by posting original discussions or topic may earned more when responded by many members here..

GREAT question, I would love to know about this too. I have no star by my name and am unsure why...maybe it's because I am still so new? I also think that they do give us more for rated topics. I have noticed that on the one day that I chose all of the best responces that I was paid more.

smellsyummy, when you get to 100 responses, which is the number in () you will receive a star and the ratio of the star will tell you how well you were related by your fellow mylotters. I have noticed that when I resolve several discussions in a day that I to earn more, but then I wonder was it because everyone rated my responses? The earnings are a mystery to me the same as they are to all, but this question has been perplexing me for awhile and after so many discussions that I read yesterday decided to post this to see what others had to say. :)

I am not sure about this but I think you have to have 100 posts before you get a star.
