What is the proper time frame that most parents will plan for their kids financial expenses such as education, insurance and the works?

Insurance is definitely a must after a child is born. With regards to savings, whatever monetary gifts we got for our daughter, she got her own savings account. We tried to add to it monthly even if it is just for $10 or $20 but thru the years, it will definitely add up. I also join upromise.com so at least whatever product she is using and is part of upromise, I can get something out of it. It is not that much but you got the option to add more to it and this is for like college savings. On the other hand, we will have no problem with her education because my husband is a veteran and she can avail of free education.
