Do you think it's wise to ged educational plan for your child?

We all know that quality education has gotten really expensive and that it will get more expensive every year. My husband and I availed an educational plan even before I conceived thinking that it will be a great help when the time comes. But come to think of it, there are other means of saving for the future and that the money we will eventually get 16 years from now from that educational plan might even have lesser value than if we put it on time deposit which we could renew every quarter/year. Do you think we made the right decision? We've been paying for it for two years now and have three more years to fully pay for the plan.
