I love watching the Speed Channels series called “Back In The Day” It’s a 30 minute show of a NASCAR race from years ago. Today’s was from 1968. During the show the show little blurbs of various interesting facts of that years events. It’s fun to watch as there have been so many changes in the cars since then. The cars back then were solid steel. When a car crashed there was DAMAGE to everything. There was no safety wall just a solid concrete barrier. Parts would fly into the stands spraying the spectators. The Pit crews wore no safety gear. No fire suits, no helmets, no goggles etc. In some episodes you can even see the timer in the pit crew smoking a cigarette. UUGGGGH!!! A pit stop took 20 + seconds for a 4 tire change and fuel. Just the chance to se the Stars of old is awesome. Richard Petty, David Pearson, Junior Johnson, The Alison family, Cale Yarborough just to name a few. The winning purses were around $5,000 in the late 60’s early 70’s. If you get a chance to see this show check it out if you love NASCAR. Thanks and enjoy the season all. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!

Hey, I watch that program too! I love anything to do with raceing. There is a race track about 30 min from my house. During the summer they have races every Saturday. People come from all over. It is a dirt track & the seating & bathrooms are tragic but its still loads of fun! They give away trophys & $$ to the winners. I wanted to raise but since I have no health insurance I figured I'd better wait. Haha. My niece loves going. I didnt think she would like it cause its so dusty & the cars are so loud but she thinks it's the greatest thing ever.
