Wendy's sandwiches....what a joke!!

I am so tired & fed up with going to these hamburger places and paying way too much money for sloppy sandwhiches. I have had it!! We went to Wendy's this afternoon about 4 pm and it was not that busy. But I noticed the manager came out of her office to help with some sandwiches, mine being one of them. I ordered the new Friscatta club sandwich. What I got looked nothing like the picture. It was supposed to have 2 different lunch meats and lettuce, tomato & bacon. Well it did have all of those, but...the meat was just slapped on there, not arranged, the tiny bit of bacon was there, and for the lettuce, get this. It is pictured as having a romaine like lettuce, nice and pretty, well I got the end piece of the core. I took the sandwich back to the counter and said I'd like some lettuce please, so she told the manager and she gave me the soggiest, limpest little piece of lettuce in some foil, I just layed it back on the counter and said they could keep it. Dave always promised while he was alive that he would sell good burgers, good food. Well I don't think he would be pleased. It's not the first time I've rec'd a less than ideal or edible sandwich. How about you, are you tired of not getting what you pay for?

I totally know what you mean..I've had the same problem there and other fast food places. I think really they have all gone down hill. It's all about the money. They don't pay help enough, they hire anyone, they use inferior produce to save. There certainly can't be any pride involved..isn't working at a fast food place the joke of all young adults.. I was a mystery shopper and did lots of shops at Wendy's, McDonald's and Burger King..believe me I've seen it all... I don't do those shops anymore because it makes me so mad the money you pay for such crap. Oh well I'm starting to rant...lol Done now..

Oh I think it's fun most of the time. There are so many companies out there but it depends on where you live as to how much work there is. I do bank shops, cell phone shops, restaurant shops etc. I was going to do some apartment shops but I'm too busy being depressed right now to do any...lol and getting lazy while I'm at it.

I'd love to know if you feel the mystery shopping is a good experience or a waste of time. I am signed up to do it, but it is only fast food business available as of yet and I really wish yesterday I was on the job, boy would I rate that Wendy's experience!

I did the mystery shopping thing once, too, but after I was done and sent everything in I didn't recieve the cheque for doing the shops. I basically gave them free results. I wrote an email to the lady that I had spoken to and didn't hear a word back, so I assume they were just a scam. I can't remember the company's name, but they were Canadian based.

I thought the sandwich I was ordering would be a healthier choice, nothing really greasy, but it was horrible. Looked NOTHING like the picture I ordered from! I try to avoid stopping at these joints, I'd rather go to subway or quizzno's if I have to eat fast food.

Hamberger - Burgerking Hamberger
I worked at a wendy's before they went down hill (the whole chain) I think the best place is burger king for you get good food for what you pay for expect for their breaded chicken burger. In Canada we have little to choose from and forget wasting your money at McDonald's it is pure crap for a lot of money. I guess it depends on where you go and what yu want.

Believe it or not, we went to Burger King first this afternoon! They didn't have any food!! She goes if you want anything fried, we don't have it, it's been an awful day!! We are waiting for some food to come from another Burger King, I said you've got to be kidding. So we left and went to Wendy's. But you are right, they are all like this. McDonald's is pure crap, I agree with you 100%.

Yep - and it seems to be common every place I go. Pay more get less, service is rude for the most part if you can even call it service, and less 'food'. For all of this you pay more and good luck if you go to a drive thru you had better check it before you pull away from the window or you'll be waiting a half-hour to get someones attention or you'll get home and something will be missing!

That too has happened to me many times. I try to check in the bag before I pull away, b/c otherwise you have to get out and go inside and wait in line even longer. They hate it when you bring a mistake to their attention. Like yesterday when I told them the manager needed to give me some lettuce, she did not like it one bit and it showed on her face.

I have not been to Wendy's in such a long time. The last time I was there the people who waited on me were dirty and I found a hair in my food.

It's a wonder we all don't get food poisoning isn't it? I went to a McDonald's once and saw the young guy sneeze and he never left to go wash his hands, he made my hamburger. I said something to the manager or whoever was there and demanded another hamburger. It's disgusting.

I could not agree more, and it is not just Wendy's. It is all over the place. Sometimes they look like they do not want to wait on you. We were in Burger King the other day and there were about 5 people standing around (clerks) and nobody wanted to wait on us. The manager went to the back to look for someone to wait on us. We were standing there a long time. They were not doing anything. It was strange. And I absolutely, hate when the lettuce is nothing more than a hard end piece!!! They don't just do this with the sandwiches but the salads, too. You are just looking for decent lettuce in your salad...and most of it is hard, or limp, or brown. What is happening to this generation of fast food?

i couldn't agree more with you... fast food restaurant just rip off our money and ask us to pay such a big money but we don't get what we want... that's why i hardly want to eat in fast food restaurant... and i prefer to cook my own food or eat in a decent restaurant...

I prefer to eat in a decent restaurant myself. My hubby like fast food if we are just in town and need to hurry up before we get to our destination. Or just for a change, but it ridiculous that they do not take any time in preparing the meals they sell.

I am sorry that happened to you but it must have just that your Wendy;s have lousy staff. Wendy's Frescata, black forest ham and swiss cheese is my all time favorite sandwich, looks just like the picture and everything is crisp and fresh.

I have not ordered a sandwich or a hamburger at a Wendy's anywhere around here that gave me the sandwich I ordered. You are very fortunate and maybe you should tell them that they are doing a great job and that they should let headquarters know that many more are doing a bad job. I didn't used to frequent Hardee's much, but hubby took me there last week and it was the best hamburger I'd had in ahwile. Big one, but great tasting.

Food - Shouldnt it always look like the picture!
Oh How true, I don't think it's just Wendy's it is every where. We went to golden coral one night and I was craving a salad, went to the bar, and the lettuce was wilted and looked awful, so I asked the guy if he could put some fresh lettuce on the bar, he looked at me and said we have none, I said your joking right you have no lettuce in the back at all he told me no we don't I said ok, went to the manager and she went to the back and brought out some fresh lettuce. I was so upset with the bar person. I told the manager, she needed to talk with him because if someone is paying for something then you need to go out of your way to make sure they are happy she agreed and said she would talk to him. I have been to other places as well, I pay good money for there product and it is crap and no one care's. I will be glad when more people realize that and start complaining and these companies do something about it instead of just glossing over the problems. Thanks for the post.

I agree. I for one am going to start voicing my opinion, I am going to write to their headquarters and I hope everyone who reads this post will also starta speaking up. It's a shame that we spend hard earned money and for what? Nasty food, horrible service! The few who do a good job and make the dining experience pleasant are few and far between.

I used to enjoy Wendy's years ago. The burgers were decent sized and they had a great taste. No longer. Half the time when we stop at our Wendy's they are out of something or the other, or we will have to wait for awhile if we want certain things. I used to enjoy a good Big Mac from McDonald's too, but now you get all lettuce and bun and hardly no burger. The prices keep going up and the items get smaller and smaller.

I know, I can't tell you how many times I have lifted my bread up to show my husband what little is inside. The tomatoe is so small you can't see it, or it is the end piece, it's all done so sloppy now, makes me want to stay away. I like eating at Subway more and more.

I actually went to Wendy's today for the first time in months. I use to just love their original chicken sandwich's. But what I got today resembled something that NIKE would offer. It was leathery, and flat. I remembered having a fat piece of JUICY chicken. I use to get full half way thru the sandwich and take the rest of the chicken out and eat just the chicken, and throw out the bun and all the fixings. I ate what I could but didnt bother eating the chicken at all. I wasnt even full...it was gross and I think it was old too. I am totally w/ ya on this one.

I guess I'm lucky cause the Wendy's by my house is really good. It's my favorite fast food place. I really like their salads and chicken sandwiches. My favorite thing of course is the frosty! I get the chocolate one. I haven't tried the vanilla yet. I'm sorry you had a lousy experience. Have you considered contacting the corporate headquarters? I'm sure Wendy's must have a website. Good luck to you.

Wendy's is normally a preferred place for us to eat. My husband loves the chocloate frosty's. His favorite!! He too hasn't been brave enough to try the vanilla either. I plan to contact Wendy's headquarters soon. Thank you for sharing with me.

I've had that happen just a couple of times. Both times, the situation was remedied satisfactorily. If you feel it's warranted, perhaps you need to contact the corporate headquarters with your complaint. I'm sure Dave would be appalled.

Dave would not have tolerated such practices, I'm sure he wouldn't. Things have really gone downhill since he is gone now. I do plan to contact their corporate headquarters and see if they can do anything to make sure employees and managers are doing their best job possible.

The prices are outrageous for what you get, I agree. McDonald's has made it's fortune on happy meals and catering to the kids I think. The kids beg the parents to go to McDonald's.

I think it has a lot to do with cost cutting and the mentality of the worker in today's society. Companies like Wendy's are trying to cut costs everywhere and it is reflecting in the quality of the food. I, for one, would prefer to pay an extra 50 cents and get the food in the picture. The other point is the help. They could have taken the time to assemble the sandwich correctly but they chose not to. That is the stereotypical behavior of today's society.

You are absolutely 100% correct!! I too would pay the extra for a better product. It doesn't take that much longer to do a decent job of making a sandwich, but when the manager does a sloppy job you know the workers are thinking they too can do it and get away with it.

The problems are at all the fast food places. People want their food fast, so the workers are rushed. They should be taught not to serve something that they would not want to eat. The sandwiches are never going to look pretty like the pictures. They spend hours taking the perfect picture, they make it look so good and then when you get your food it looks a mess. More cusomers need to complain like you did, maybe then they will get the message.

You are so right. They wouldn't eat this stuff made like this. I bet when they take their breaks, if they eat any of the products they serve, I bet it is made with better care than what we get. I know when I go to a restaurant and order, my food usually looks like it does on the menu and they can do it at a fast food too if they will just try a little. It would improve the industry by leaps and bounds.

I don't like eating in fast foods. Sometimes I have eaten in Taco Bell though. It isn't anything like it was when the Bell's owned it. Now a days. the labor is paid low, and as a result, we do not get a good product. I have always reported it to a manager when ever food was not up to par though. Or, asked for my money back, and didn't eat it.

I don't blame you one bit for reporting it. I like Taco Bell usually too. But sometimes even theirs is just thrown together. I like going to a real mexican restaurant. I think if more of us would do like you did it may make a difference.

Unfortunately at most fast food places, service is on the decline. I would say overall my experience at Wendy's has being good. I have had horrendous service at the other fast food places. I only eat fast food once or twice a month, and Wendy is my first choice. The Wendy's I patronize uses gloves while the other fast places don't so that's one of the reasons I keep going back.
• United States
5 Apr 07
If I see a worker NOT using gloves I refuse the product and say something. That is against any and all health regulations anywhere. I have eaten at Wendy's in other locations before, years ago and the food was outstanding. But since Dave is gone, it seems they have gone downhill.

Strangely enough, I've heard a lot of people complain about Wendy's before now saying that they're no good and that their sandwiches are horrible. I personally have never eatn in Wendy's so I couldn't tell you. However, I've had a few bad experiences with Mcdonalds of all places. We only eat at McDonalds on rare occasions. The kids like the toys in the Happy Meals from there. Myself and my partner usually order a variation of the same few things. I ordered just recently a double quarter pounder with cheese as part of a combo. We took our meal to the table, sat down and opened our meals. My burger was dripping with grease! And not just a slow drip, but absolutely coated with grease. I took one bite and took it back. The manager was very apologetic but the staff member who waited on me looked at me as if to say whats the damn problem? I looked her right in the eye, and said, take a bite and you'll see what the problem is. She had the good grace to at least look embarrassed. I got another burger out of it, but I'll never eat at that particular McDonalds again. I don't know how they're cooking their burgers, but I've never had that problem at any other McDonalds I've been to.

I think if more employees are encouraged to take pride in their job, to make decent sandwiches that they themselves would eat it would be a better experience for everyone. They just don't care what they serve. Mine was prepared by the manager of all people and she was not happy that I went up to the counter for more lettuce. I haven't been back and probably won't go back either.
