How would you feel if your internet stopped working?

My internet connection has been intermittent for just over two weeks, I've been unable to do anything on the web for more than 5 minutes before it stops working. Its been chaos, the phone lines were checked the computer and modem tested all with the same result - no problem! But then over the weekend the modem broke, so now I'm back online with a new modem and looking forward to sorting out those hundreds and hundreds of emails that await me from all my lot friends! It felt like part of me was missing being unable to complete my daily routine of simply logging on to the computer and doing some work. How would you feel or has this happened to you?

I go craaazy when I can't get online..not to mention, I go broke, because I work at home over the internet, so no internet means no work! yikes! I love being online and I'm on pretty much every minute I'm not asleep or off doing somethign in the real world. yeah, once in a while I do have to venture out into the world with the 3-dimentional people..but that doesnt mean I have to like it. I was having major computer problems for the past few weeks, and I was having problems with my connection going down too..or going so slow that it wouldnt connect to the servers at work, so I couldnt work..it was a nightmare. I finally ended up getting a new computer, because my computer started shutting off on me and wouldnt stay on..talk about torture! but its all good now..I've been having no problems for the past week.. :O))

I would be lost. I pay my bills online. I am also looking for a permanent job, and since most jobs are now online. I would not be able to do apply. It would probably be better for my health because I would do more physical activities.

I have had no internet for the last five months, thanks to my brilliant idea of joining Talk Talk. My phone line was so bad I couldn't even dial up with a 56k modem! I am now with virgin and although I had to wait a month for them to turn up and then another week for them to replace the modem which went bananas after 1 hour.... I am now happy. Initially with no internet I felt lost, I work online so you can imagine how that felt. However after a couple of days of using internet cafes and finding a brilliant one I have to say in some weird way I was better off with no internet at home and my work has benefited from it. First because I worked on the PC at home and prepared the work to take with me at the cafe, so I had to be organized and split my work in lots of little defined stages which focused what I do a little bit, helped me with discipline. Second, it got me out of the house and forced me to keep normal sleeping hours, which means I'd get up at seven, went to the park for a nice long walk till 10am when the cafe would open etc. Now I just work till I drop, but I am not so focused so I might get stuck here having fun for hours on end and achieving very little in terms of work done. Yes, too much freedom will work against you if you aren't disciplined enough.

Ahh, my mother and father also had the brilliant idea of joining Talk Talk too!!! I think they are now going back to BT. So I know how you felt. I have a routine I stick too, a set number of hours doing one task before moving on to the next and so on. It makes the day go much easier and you tend to get everything done thats necessary.

we were on the phone everyday to the telecom people and they kept telling us there was no problem, which as we found out was true. The modem worked fine everytime they checked the line/computer connection and then started to play up after once they had gone! typical!!

I would completely freak out. It's happened to me before when our phone line went down during a storm and it took the repairmen more then two weeks to get out and fix it. It happened another time when the phone jack became loose and again we had to wait more than three weeks for them to come out and sort it. Our phone's repair service is a joke, so when anything goes wrong you know you are going to have a long wait. I need the internet. My family lives on the other side of the world, so it is how we stay in touch. If the phones/internet go down I feel totally cut off and I hate it.

My family also lives on the other side of the world to me and so I use the internet to communicate with them, so last week was abit quiet for them as I couldn't respond to their emails or Skype messages.

No way I couldn't give it up!!! I went on holiday for a week and where I was staying there was no Internet access so I was in the local library on their computers nearly every day and when my time was up there my next stop was the Internet cafe. I just have to go on the Internet a week without it would probably drive me mad.

It has happened to me before it is awful to go without a online connection. I am glad you are back connected I hope it doesn't happen to either one of us again. My modem went crazy a about a month ago i was lucky to have a friend that knows a lot about computers to help me fix mine.

My husband is knows alot about computers (he built the one I'm using), but trying to convince the internet company who provided the modem and line etc, that there was a problem was very difficult. Fingers crossed that it won't go again for either of us.

on my case i'm experiencing slow speeds on my bandwidth aside from that my pc is being attack by some sort of spyware that whenever i turn on my pc after being online for a couple of minutes i will get an error of "Generic Host Processing for Win32 has encountered a problem." it will display this message and all of a sudden you will no longer be able to connect to the net, so you'll be forced to resort in rebooting your pc. but as expected it happens again. i have reformatted my pc already and also had run an anit-virus but that seems not to resolve the issue. well i cannot stand a single minute not being online either working or just playing. pls. if anyone here know what are the other ways i can resolved this please let me know. i am very eager to get this fix. thanks a lot in advance to all mylot peeps.

In my life its not so important to be on the net everyday. I have a lot of friend who are always ready to spend some quality time with me. No one should be so much acustom of the net that their whole routine gets disturbed because of the network problem. What actually blows me off is that even after having everything we can't do whatever we want to do with them.

Thats true we shouldn't be so much acustomed to the internet, but when you use it for work, study etc. You need it working all the time with no problems or else your business/income will suffer.

I have experienced the same problem when i first started using Internet at home on my own PC. But now i've learned a lot since then about the technical issues. o now i don't face such a problem. But i remember it was really frustrating when my internet connection wasn't responding and i wasn' able to surf the net. I really got bored at that time and called the helpline quickly. Its really hard to be without internet after using it for long.

Maybe I will take those days as "holiday" to feel the life without Internet. Watch TV, movie or reading some books for the free time. Of-course, sourcing a new modem is the most important thing i must do, else I will fell there is something missing in my life....
