How many people remember 8 track tapes...and how many still own them?

I think this is so embarassing to still own them, but we do! My kids make more fun out of them then they do the Vinyl records! Does anyone even know what these are anymore?

Ok, I hate to admit it but, yes, I not only know what they are, I still have an 8 track player. There are some songs on the tapes that I just cannot get on cassettes or CDs and I don't want to lose these songs. If I try to tape them, the sound is horrible so I have to stick with the 8 track tapes. Dang it, there is one Christmas song for which I have been looking all over. I think it is called "Shake Me I Rattle, Squeeze Me I Cry, Please Take Me Home and Love Me" or something like that. I cannot find that song anywhere! Going to CD was bad enough since so many cassette tapes were not redone on CD. Hey, I am a child of the 60s and I want my music! As for my vinyl, whoa baby, I have a collection plus!!!

I'm going to have my husband try and find that song for you, He's really good with names and artists, he's the real music person. I love music I just can't remember a thing! I'll get back to you on this, FranMc:) peace

lol I have it on 8 track...I just can't find it on anything else. That's the reason I won't part with my 8 tracks. They have some good songs that you can't get elsewhere.

Definitely remember them. I played mine so much they all wore out. I replaced them, first with cassettes and then with CD's. I would be a rich woman if I saved all the money I have spent on music. It is one of my loves in life. Can't imagine not being able to listen to music.

I hear you when you say $ for what I've spent in music. We have milk crates full of lp's, 8 tracks, cassettes, and now we have Cd's, and of course now the 3 kids are starting just like we did! It never ends!FranMc:)peace

Still have some. I like the ones with the two felt pads on copper, they last forever, whereas the other kind has a foam strip that turns to mush making you think the tape is ruined. I learned a trick from a site called TheMusicLocator.com ... for the foam ones that fail try using foam window stripping to repair them.

there's a song on a Brian Setzer cd called 8 track, I'd never heard of them till I heard the song. I'm not sure if they were more of an American thing?

Hey! I not only remember the LP's, I still have a few. I have 33's and 45's. I sold all of my 8-tracks. I still have a good collection of cassette tapes. I really don't have too many CD's but my children have a lot of them. Does this mean I am old??

I still have some. I like the ones with the 2 felt pads on copper, they last forever unlike the ones with a strip of foam in them. The foam turns to mush over time leading you to think the tape is ruined ... however I learned a trick from a site called TheMusicLocator.com ... try removing whats left of the foam and replace ing it with window insulation strip foam. It works!
