what is the best cake to bake when i want to impress my in-laws

my friend who is engaged with her boyfriend will meet her in-laws for their official engagement announcement. she is still thinking what cake to bake since her in laws love all kinds of cake.

I used to make a Bacardi rum cake every year at our family reunion pool parties. To this day my cousins all expect me to make it.

Rumcake is a great idea. It is nice and sweet, and usually has a glaze so it's not "too much" after dinner. I love it.

They like all cakes, so that is easy. She should pick what she has made a few times, and what is easiest for her. How about an ice cream cake, decorated really pretty?

Something decadent like chocolate devil's food cake is always good! Or if you want something a bit healthier, try an angelfood cake served with fresh berries/fruit and whipped cream, they're pretty easy to make from scratch.
