Need help with DVD burning

Our computer has the Nero software installed in it and I never had any problems burning DVDs until recently. I don't know if it's Nero's fault or our pc (it's kinda old and crappy). Anyway, I was trying to burn some files, and it keeps on getting error messages. I should have saved the error report so I can describe it better but I was already half-asleep at the time and it didn't enter my mind to save the error report. Anyway, I think it has something to do with a wrong track. I don't know anybody who might be able to help me with this (most of the time they come to me for help when it comes to PCs). Usually, when I get error messages I just try it again and it usually works afterwards so I tried to repeat it over and over but all of a sudden all the folders in the DVD disappeared. I opened it in Explorer and it said the DVD was blank. I almost panicked but then I remembered that I made a mistake in burning a DVD before and when i deleted all the files in it, it took awhile for all of it to be deleted so I wondered if all the data that I had previously burned could just suddenly vanish. When I tried to burn new data on the disk, it said that the disk wasn't empty so I was a bit relieved. My problem now is how do I access the data in that disk, whenever i open it, it just shows a blank disk. Are there any experts here on burning, especially with Nero? Fortunately, most of the stuff on that disk are still in the hard drive and those that I have deleted already I can just download again from the net but I would rather not repeat the same process again so any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! PS. I forgot to mention that I use a re-writable disk and I had no problems adding new files there until I got that error message.
