Which part of the year did you get married.

We got married in September because it was, in those days, the best time to get an income tax rebate...!! And did you know that in the very old days two centuries ago most people got married in June because they took their yearly baths in May and by June they were starting to smell a little so brides carried a small bouquet of flowers to hide the B.O........!!

We got married on the month of February. We both believe the it is a lucky month and our love will grow since Feb is the month of hearts. Yes, we took the meaning of Feb literally. =)

Actually, the June tradition started long before that. In Greek Mythology, Juno, for which the month June was named for, was the patrion goddess of marriage, longevity and fertility. I'm getting married in May. Where I live, school lets out in late May/early June. My fiance is studying to me a teacher/professor, so I wanted an anniversary date that we could go on vacations and second honeymoons when there's no school. I refuse to get married in June becuase it's cliche, and also my fiance's little brother got legally united in June. And also, school starts back up in August, but I refuse to get married in August because my parents were married in August. Big mistake. So I don't want the bad luck from either of those months, so I figured May would be best.

My choice for a wedding would be early September. In Australia 1st September is the beginning of Spring, so by mid September, it is starting to get too hot for me. We were sugar cane growers, and September is in the middle of the cane cutting season, so a September wedding was out of the question. I chose the opposite side of the seasons and married 19th March which is in the beginning of autumn. Back in 1960 it was a beautiful day: sunny but not overly hot and not humid. If it had been this year it would have been scorchingly hot and extremely humid. I can't imagine wearing my wedding dress and veil with water dripping down the body from the perspiring head. With the "change" in seasons in recent years, I would now choose August or April, when the weather is pleasantly cool.

PS How come you received an income tax rebate? For getting married? Why?

Hi 'Cloud' When we got married in Sept.1959 it was the best month to do so because it was six months into the tax year and we used to get a tax rebate for the tax we had paid in those six months which was handy to help pay for the wedding. We didn't have parents or grandparents, as you well know, that could afford to pay for our weddings. The gifts were also very small too as people were not as prosperous as they are today. No washing machines or dishwashers which they expect these days...!!

We were married in summer. There is a bit of a lul in the work load at that time of the year. We figured it was best to have a summer wedding. Gosh it was so hot that year. My May bath would have been well worn off!

We got married in February because in our family all the marriages were conducted in a particular marriage hall and that seemed auspicious. Even though we were engaged in September, we had to wait for the Marriage Hall till February as it was not free.

That is the same here in the UK. Church marriages are normally booked at least a year in advance. Also the reception.

We got married in May. The main reason was because my husband was already going to be home on leave for his best friend's high school graduation. He's in the military, stationed 1000 miles from home. We thought it was best to save the extra money that he would have spent to come home again to get married at a different time. Plus getting married in May, he was able to stay home longer before coming back up here than he would have if he had to take leave again.

We, in India, get married any time except certain months when no marriage will take place because those months are considered to unauspicious for marriage. These are established custom, cherished belief and revered tradation. People still believe that in those months people getting married will face lot of problems after marriage. Therefore generally people do not prefer to get married on those months. I got married in November when winter sets in.

That's interesting about how the tradition of carrying bouquets got started. We married at the end of December. It wasn't really our intention to have a holiday wedding, it just worked out that way. The church was already filled with red poinsettias so that was a bonus and it was beautiful. We have to work hard each year to keep our anniversary from just getting lost in the holiday shuffle.

I suppose that must be a problem with some dates. My son, his wife and their son were all born in the first week of January and we have one lump birthday party!

I got married in February. I wanted to be married on Valentine's day but the church was booked up. I could have gotten in my parish church, but it meant a lot to be married in the church where both my husband my myself were both christened, made our first communion and our confirmation. I took a bath the morning I was married so I only need to carry a single orchid which was attached to my bridal missal...lol. I heard about the baths in May and the reason for the brides carrying their bouquet. I shudder to think of it!!

We got married in September also. It was because we were trying to have the wedding before my husband's father passed away and that was the soonest I could get a wedding together and book the church. Also, at the end of Septmeber my allergies are pretty much over for the season and I could have pictures without red eyes and a runny nose. :)

we first got married on a september because we are Marian devotee. we got married on Sept 8, mother mary's birthday, wishing that she would bless our marriage. then for our church wedding, it was held on october. this is the month for semestral break so we thought of this month. we have lesser work at our computer shop and it is okay if we close for a number of days. during our wedding year, october also had a long weekend so we took advantage of it. and added trivia is that this is also my parent's anniversary month :)

I got married in September. September 25th to be exact. I love the fall. To me that seems to be the time of year when everything changes and gives way for a new begining. I love the colors of fall, and the smells....it is always so beautiul at the parks. Unfortunately, we got divorced. But if I get married again, I think I would still choose the fall season.

We got married in August. Although it is very hot that time of year, all my other friends had gotten married the same year in May and June which turned out to be hotter than August. Truthfully, at the time we did it to same money, but now August is one of the most popular months for weddings.
