Why does everyone have to talk about the bad things?

Here recently I have been pretty severely depressed with work stress, money issues and my girlfriend. It didn't occur to me until yesterday when my girlfriend asked me why it was that when she starts talking about problems that shes having I just seem to rush her off the phone... Well my response was, "That's all you talk about... never any of the good things". So today at work (where im at right now writing this) everyone I have talked to is only talking about the bad things that are going on, "Do you know what Natalie cheated on her husband?!" Things like that... So then all I want to do is talk about something that has a happy mood to it and as I hop on myLot to check out the discussions I realize all the discussions are about saddening things or peoples problems! I could come on here and tell you all the bad things that are going on to peek everyones interest but what about when I want to come on here and talk about why I think kittens are so darn cute? Anyone else agree? I think everyone could use to start thinking and talking about the shinier side of life. =)

Yes that is very true. If you are allready down and just focus on all the negative things it will make you feel worse! Good on your girlfriend for pointing this out! There are some happy posts! There are quite a few really funny jokes here on mylot. Add jokes to your interests and see what pops up. If it suits your personality, allow mature content, and look in the discussions under s e x! There are some quite revolting posts but there are also some really good natured and humourous discussions there as well. I tend to find when I am happy I notice all the good posts here, but if I am down I only really see the negative ones! I can't help but wonder if this is just a mind thing or if the whole world really is depressed evry time I am! I hope you have fun and listen to your girlfriend, it sounds like she talks some sense!!!

That could be true! Maybe its because im going through some hard times that the negative things just stick out! Ya my girlfriend can be quite the smart one sometimes =P nothing wrong with that at all =)

Because it is human nature that's why! It is sort of like people that enjoy gossiping in general; it provides a diversion from their own lives and maybe subliminally makes them feel better about themselves. Think of it on the other end of the spectrum..... If you had someone who was always bubbly and vibrant they too would eventually drive you crazy! Sometimes people are just looking for sympathy also and it is soothing to hear words of comfort from others; it is also a means of release, get things off our chests.

Good response! Ya I could understand that someone who is always bubbly would probably get on my nerves but it would just be so nice if it could at least be 50/50... seems like its always 95% negative communication.
