How far can dress codes go?

In my school, the principals have cracked down hard on dress code...understandable right? Well today the administration gathered all the students (and there were a lot)with solid color shirts on (no matter the color), brought in the sheriff and threatened each student. This kind of upset me because most of the students just had on a solid color shirt. Now I'm not talking about them having on the same color from head to toe...just the shirt. Purple, red, blue, black, white...it didn't matter. If it was solid, they got in trouble. I had good kids crying because they felt their reputations were stained. Now the administration is telling the kids they are not allowed to wear solid color shirts. What does everyone think about that? Am I wrong for thinking that is not right?

No you're not wrong. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Was there a reason they don't want kids to wear solid colore shirts? An incident maybe?

Well I work in a pretty rough middle school. There are several fights a week and there is no doubt in my mind there are some students involved in gang activity. The problem is that they pulled every kid. I had good kids crying because they felt belittled. I'm all for snatching up those students who have on one color from head to toe, but just a shirt? I'm not buying it.
