Let's talk about abortion...

Is there any way you would have an abortion or you think an abortion is right? I am on alot of meds that could cause bad birth defects. Of course I am on birth control, but it is not 100% effective. If I was to get pregnant while on my harmful perscription, I would get an abortion. That would be the only reason for me to have one. What about you, what are your thoughts on this subject?

I am not for abortion and it's not for me at all. I believe that everyone deserves a chance at life and like the commercial said the other day "Choose life because your mom did." That just got to me. Even if you can't take care of it there are other options like adoption or foster care. At least you know they'll end up with a nice life instead of no life at all. All children are a gift and a miracle. Why not give that gift of life to a person that can't have children of their own. I can understand where you're coming from since you are on meds that can harm the baby however if you were to get pregnant then could you go off your meds? If not, then even having a child with birth defects and giving it up for adoption would be another choice. It would be a hard and painful choice, but there are people out there that only take in children with special needs. However they are hard to find.

Infants with defects do not get adopted. I'm sorry to say that, but it's true. Adoptive parents only want perfect, healthy, ethnic-specific babies. How do you know that being given up will ensure the child a happy life? And what about the hundreds of thousands of children who are already in the system who need homes and families?

I think abortion is only right for rape and incest.

I myself had an abortion when I was 15. Not because I had an unwanted pregnancy, though it was unwanted. I was raped by a stranger who turned out to be someone ten years older than me. I reported this to the police and the man was caught and charged. The case went to court and ultimately he was sentenced to three years in prison. I wanted to put the whole ordeal behind me and move on. the fact that I was 15 made this tough. 4 weeks later, I found out I was pregnant. I'll spare you the details, but it was a horrific experience, and being a mother now, there would have to be extremely grave circumstances, such as the severe birth defects you talk about, in order for me to consider ever doing that again.

First of all, if you don't want a baby then you need to make sure you are protected, make your partner use something. I believe abortion is wrong. It is the same thing as murder. There are plenty of people that want children who can't have children and would gladly adopt an unwanted baby. I got pregnant when I was 18. My boyfriend wanted me to have an abortion because he had already been married once and had a baby with his wife and he didn't want to be a father again, but I refused to have one. Having an abortion is something that you will have to live with for the rest of your life. I have several friends who have had abortions because they were young and thought they weren't ready to have a baby but now that they are older they regret having it done.

I think that abortion is a personal choice. I can see someone having an abortion for health reasons. I would if my health would be drastically affected. If you feel like you could not be a good mother to a child with birth defects I understand you making a choice to have an abortion some meds do cause drastic birth defects. I don't like abortion being used as a method of birth control. I think all precautions need to be taken not to pregnant in the first place. I think it is overly used just because someone goes oops I didn't mean to get pregnant.

This is a hot topic! I myself have had an abortion. I needed to because the medication I was on last year would have caused birth defects. I also wasn't ready to bring life into the world. I tell you what though, I have regretted every day having an abortion. If I fell pregnant again, If I was ready for a child or not, I couldn't have another abortion. It breaks my heart when I see moms with their bubs and realising that could have been me

From moral/ethical view I'd say it can be right or it can be wrong, it depends on how or what the situation is like. Knowing your situation, there are chances u cud give birth to a defect baby. Hence u prolly think it'd be better to hav an abortion. Here u conclude using your common sense and/or logic. I believe in God, and if u dont mind me asking, do you? Though there are chances of defect, but arent there no chance for a normal and healthy baby too? I guess it comes down to Faith or Logic, at the end of the days, your heart usually knows whats rite...just follow your heart.

I wouldnt want my baby to be trashed or thrown away. I would consider adoption if I couldnt raise my child but I would think against abortion.

I am a firm believer that people should have the right to chose what is best for them.To take away that choice would lead to many more unwanted children and very unhappy parents.I am male and do have a son,but I respect the right for females to have a choice.

women also have the right to say "no" to their boyfriends which would avoid all these problems in the first place.

"women also have the right to say "no" to their boyfriends which would avoid all these problems in the first place" So you are telling me that I should have said no to my husband?

If you don't want anymore children you and your husband must know there is only one fool proof and moral way to prevent it.

Personally I don't think I could ever have an abortion. I just could not live a full life knowing what I had done. I do believe in the right to be able to have one though, just not for me. It is a woman's right to choose and make that very tough life long decision.

the only way i would have abortion is if the baby would be badly deformed, apart from that i dont belive in it,there is to many birth controls out there to stop unwanted pregnancies.

I would never consider abortion. Even if you are on meds that could cause birth defects. You said your on birth control. its not 100% effective but if ever you get pregnant, just let nature take it's course. If the baby makes it, then that's good. If the baby was born and have defects, i'm sure god made it possible for a reason..nobody has the right to take a life. only the one who gives life can take it.

That's like saying that if you walk through a burning building, you'll only get burned of God wants you to and you shouldn't interfere with the effects through means of medical treatment since it was obviously God's will. That makes no sense to me. God helps those who help themselves.

If I were a woman in your position and didn't want to jeopardize a baby's health I would simply say "no" to my boyfriends.

I think that having the right to choose is a must in all honesty...but I will admit that I totally disagree with ppl who use abortion as a constant means of birth control (I knew someone like that).... I dont knwo wht I would have done if i'd not been able to have my abortion in all honesty...It was hard to decide wihtout a doubt, it broke my heart to have to decide that (we'd originally wanted the have the baby since our son was coming along so nicely supposedly, healthwise..things changed).... I think what ppl need to start realizing (Pro Lifers I mean) is that there are 101 reasons all valid for abortions to be had such as in my situation and yours Jennifer21 just to name two....Abortions ARE NOT had simply becuase of an "oops" one night and Pro Lifers really IMO need to understand that....

If it's for medical reason, like the mother couldnt have the baby unless she'd harm herself, then (maybe) the abortion is the choice. But if it's done by teenagers, who just dont want the baby then I am totally against it. It's not the babies' fault, why kill them? The babies never ask their parent to bear them. So if they dont want the baby, why 'make' it? that's my 2 cents.

This isn't a concern for me since I had to have a hysterectomy about 6 years ago but if I was in the position to get pregnant, I wouldn't ever consider abortion. I'm very much Pro-Life and I do believe women have a choice, a choice to say 'no' and not be placed in a situtation that they do not want to be in or a choice to say 'yes' and live with their decision. I know alot of people aren't fans of this view point but it's how I feel. There are too many ways to avoid getting pregnant now and there are too many other options once a person is pregnant other than abortion. I do not know your situation. If you are married or planning to ever be off the medication in the future. If you are not married, then I would say abstaining would be a wiser decision than using an abortion as a means of birth control. If you aren't ever going to be off the medication or have no desire or plans to have children in the future then you might consider having a hysterectomy for various reasons, one being the concern of getting pregnant with a child that has birth defects. I do not look down on people who have an abortion, I just think they are ill informed or haven't really considered all their options. I think a fetus is a child from the moment it's conceived. I think having an abortion is killing that child. I think people need to make better choices so as to avoid being in a position to need an abortion. These are just my opinions, of course, and I'm not sharing them because I want to try and change anyone's mind - just sharing my views because you asked. :] Have a great day!

Your situation is very understandable. And if i were in the same place i may feel the same way. That being said im less then 2 months from my duedate and even if i found out tomarrow that this child had a horrible defect i couldent do something to jepordise his health, IF IT WAS POSSIBLE to abort this late. If i had found at at 20 weeks, i dont think i could have aborted him. Now if i had found out really early in the pregnancy, and depending on the risks... Thats another story. If i knew the baby would have no quality of life, would be vegitative, then i would abort, If i knew the baby couldent live outside of me, then i would abort, However if the baby was going to be brain damaged but other wise fine, or not have the use of its limbs, then i dont think i would. Because they can still have a quality of life....

In our country abortion, be it therapeutic or voluntary, is illegal. It is because of the influence of the church in our country that is why it is not legalized, similar to divorce. But even if its illegal, there are those who do it underground. Personally, i dont like abortion, because my belief is that life begins upon conception. This is a very sensitive topic, and although it has been legalized for more than 3 decades now in the US, this issue is still controversial.
