There is a IT boom and everyone is going into IT job. Those students who are from non circuit branches also go into IT jobs. The attractive thing in IT sector is 1.Salary 2.Salary 3.Salary Other than lucractive salaries there is nothing much in the IT field. We need to work for late hours in the night, sit in front of the computer for long hours. Is there anything else advantageous in the software field?

Well in most of the firms especially in India this is the case. But not all company will make you work for more than 8 hrs. For example my company itself. I didn't ever need need to sit more than 8 hrs but we do have shifts which goes on rotating. But there are many peoples who don't mind working for hours, those people who are really interested in their job. After all the reason for companies paying high amount to software professional is just because of this nature of their work.

You are one of the few lucky software professionals. Working for 8 hours a day is not a problem in any industry. Shifts also is manageable. But my friends work more than 12 hours a day and that too for the same salary. And that too in India the situation is slightly worse because of the daylight settings between india and its major client USA.

I don't know why you see the situation like that. I work in IT also, but my days are usually 6-8 hours, not so bad I like to think. I can choose to which projects I want to participate and can do some research my own, and I really like it. For me it's just perfect job, salary could be better though;)

you are a special case in the IT industry. Usually we have very less choices on the amount of hours we work and the technology in which we work.
