What exactly is vegemite? Sounds like it might be something made of vegetables, maybe a spread like peanutbutter or applebutter. Can you explain what it is for those of us who haven't a clue?

A teaspoon of vegemite mixed in with your mashed potatoes tastes great. I hadn't thought of putting it in soups, will try that one.

OMG someone from the US who likes Vegemite, I love vegemite, I don't think I could live without my vegemite, I like it on toast with butter too, and I like it on dry biscuits with butter as well, I have been known in the past to put some in a cup and put boiling water over it and have it as a drink, it tastes like Bonox if you have ever tasted that.....

My hubby is an Aussie, he loves his vegemite. I didn't like the smell or look of the stuff. I used to hate it when he would leave a butter knife with vegemite on it. Then he threw it in a couple of dishes I was making and they avtually tasted a lot better. I am now reformed, altho I won't eat it plain on cold buttered toast like him. When I make a soup or stew I throw in a tsp. or so of vegemite and it tastes better. Now that I use it in cooking my supply has been cut off, the have stopped importing it here in Canada. We will have to order some online I guess. We can still get marmite but he says marmite isn't as good. I can't tell the difference.
