Is it just me, or has this been the weirdest winter weather in recent years?

I've thought a lot about the winter we've had here in Kansas. It all seems to have started a couple of years ago, when we had a major ice storm. Ice storms in the land of Oz are not uncommom. But three and a half inches of ice is not fun. The breaking of tree limbs under the weight of the ice sounded like shotgun blasts in the distance. It was pretty eerie. Not to mention what it did to the power lines. Power poles snapped like twigs and there were thousands of folks without electricity. Last winter was pretty mild. It never really got cold enough to kill the spring critters, so the spiders, fleas, and ticks were horrible last year. Now this year has been a roller coaster ride for sure. Our first snow was early in the season, way earlier then usual. We usually don't see snow until late January, early February. The first snow was before Thanksgiving. The weather turned cold and stayed cold. For a week or two. The tempurature went from frigid to into the50's and 60's. Then it would snow and snow and snow. We literally had snow on the ground for about 6 weeks, with ice, then more snow on top of it. (I haven't seen snow on the ground that long since I was a kid) The north wind would howl like an angry lover and it was so cold, you could feel it in your bones. One day the tempurature made it up into the 70's and 24 hours later, it was in the 30's with the northern wind blowing with gail force. I've literally gone from having the heat on to having every window in the house open because it was so beautiful outside (in the dead of winter). I was wondering if anyone else has had strange winter weather?

I know it's been very strange winter here in Florida. It went very long for us with the bitter cold and we even had threats of snow here. We got warm for a bit and then boom it's freezing again out of the blue. Normally we have about two weeks of really cold weather but this year it was more like 3 months worth if not more. Then we have weather that is not cold or hot but nice. We haven't had much of that. It's either one extreme or the other. Really hot or really cold and it bounces between the two with no warning. It's playing havoc on the body. Not only for those with pain but also just causing people to get sick because they don't know how to dress for the day. It could be freezing in the morning and then hot during the day or vice versa. It's just plain wierd.

I think the weather has been weird everywhere this winter. Last week we had 2 inches of snow and 48 hours later, it was 60 degrees. Too weird!

Here in Tn.i don't think we had more than a dusting of snow and it was gone by lunch time. It has been the same here with the temps. Up then down. This has been the warmest winter in history for us( The USA, not TN.) I don't know what this year will be like but I know I have seen hoards of mosquitoes! I was even seeing them in January!! I am almost afraid to go out side this summer! I wish I could afford to buy some stock in bug lotion! I could make a bundle. It also has me worried about the future. Is this going to be a trend? How will we control the bugs if it is like this all the time? Should I call Jamaica and see how they deal with the bugs? I read a report the other day ( well part of it) and they are worried about what affect this will have on the animals. some need the cold weather and cannot survive if the temps continue to rise on the average. What are we in for?

I know what you mean. Today it was 84 degrees and tomorrow its forecasted to be in the 60's and Wednesday in the 50's. I have wondered as well what the mosquitoes will look like this year. Last year they came out way early. Oh and the fleas were out in March... sheesh. I wonder if we will even have a spring here in Kansas. Since it was so warm today, it makes me think the heat and humidity is right around the corner. If the weather is like this now, what will it be in 25 years? I wonder...
