Whats your view on stem cells?

Recently I've read some books and done some research and I think mankind would be so much better off if we could harness stem cells to help cure diseases. However I don't know much about how long embryos grow for before they are used in research so I really can't form a strong opinion yet. I would like to talk to people on both sides of this issue.

While I have a limited understanding of the whole issue I do know several things or think I do at least. 1. Stem cells are showing remarkable potential for curing disease. 2. That people were up in arms that they were being obtained as a by product of abortions. While I believe that this is a matter of personal choice. Abortions are going to occur whether or not stem cells can (for lack of a better word) be harvested. Why should something good not come as a result.
