If a dog was to bite me I would cotact the dogs owner to make sure that it has all its shots an they were up to date., If it was a homeless dog then I would seek medical treatment of course. You wouldn't know what dieases the animal may carry.

You should always take dog bites seriously. Never rely on first aid. You never know if the dog has rabies or not so you should always play it safe.

If I lived in a country or region where Rabies was present, then I'd be immediately off to get vaccinated for Rabies. Fortunately, here in the UK we don't yet have rabies in our country, so when I have been bitten I've tended to apply first aid and then check to see whether my Tetanus shots are up to date. Fortunately, the last time I was nipped by a dog was 15 or 20 years ago, and it wasn't a bad bite - just slightly broken sin. Now cats - I've been bitten a couple of times by cats in recent years but again - first aid and tetanus shots for me.
