How do I write a book?

It suddenly occurred to me that I should try my hand in writing a book. I cook, look after my baby and husband along with doing all the chores around the house, so why not try something different! That will not only give me a break from the mundane life but also I'll be able to make some money in the process. It is also good to tell people that I am the author of so and so book, try reading it at least once. I have heard people saying this, that way I know how proud it feels inside to be able to write a book. Have you got any suggestion for me? Please let me know. Thanks in advance.

I think it depends on what kind of book you are writing. There are a lot of resources out there to give you the push that you need. For instance, if you want to write a novel, you can take a peek at the website for National Novel Writing Month. Writing a novel in a month might be a bit of a push for someone with a busy life like you, but they provide a lot of free info for aspiring writers. Here is their website: http://www.nanowrimo.org/ A lot of people will try to gauge interest in their books before they are finished. In a publishing class I took, we talked about writing letters to publishers and providing writing samples to see if anyone is interested in your project. Then again, I think that if you are motivated, you should just write because now-a-days there are a lot of ways you can self publish your book. A quick internet search and you will be surprised what you would find. I also think that it would be best to have a more or less complete novel since you are a newer writing when it comes time to look for a publisher. This way they don't have to worry about you being able to produce a complete work. I would also suggest in investing in some books about writing. "Elements of Style" is a must and also some grammer books if you are concerned about that kind of thing. Good luck and have fun, because if the experience isn't a positive one, why bother right?

What sort of book would you like to write? I am starting a course soon at the beginning of May, I have always enjoyed writing even as a small child, but my lack of education has always stopped me, (as you can tell my wording is not very good) but my imagination is, I always made up stories for my children at bedtime, It's not easy writing a book and getting it published, but if its something you feel passionate about, then go for it!!!!!

Thank you for the inspiration. I would like to write something. I have a lot of ideas on my mind right now. I have not decided yet. I need to gather knowledge about the publishing first, then proceed. Writing a book is a lot of work. By the way, your wording is not bad at all. Don't underestimate yourself so much.

Wow, good luck on your new endeavor. I have actually written a book and it wasn't the writing that was all that hard, it was getting people to read it. Nowadays, it's a little easier because of the internet because you can self-publish it. But, it's still very hard to get it accepted by publishing houses it and get paid for it. You might want to join Gather.com. That way, you can post your rough draft chapters and have people comment on them. It will help you polish your work for publishers. And, you may even get noticed.

I don't think that's a good idea. First of all, publishers can usually tell when something has been plagiarized, even if it's done with different words. Also, if an idea has been seen or done before, publishers tend not to accept works that are similar. It's best to have a completely fresh piece of writing.
