Comercialization of holidays

I find myself not particularly thrilled about Easter coming and I have to tell ya that my displeasure is primarily a result of commercialization. Easter like Christmas has become about the gifts. Who's got the bigger Easter basket much like who has the most gifts under the tree. Easter is supposed to be a celebration of Jesus rising from the dead. And Christmas is supposed to be about the birth of Jesus. Instead they have become a holiday based upon rabbit and a fat man named Santa. Well I have figured out the best way to deal with Christmas is to bake a birthday cake for Jesus and to celebrate his birthday that day and to try to keep the emphasis on that. But Easter still has me befuddled. Any suggestions ?

I think you have a great idea about how to deal with Christmas. You could do the easter bunny thing a day early and still attend church on Easter. That's what we did.

Well, what you are saying are the problems about Easter and Christmas. People are focused more on rabbits, eggs, reindeers, and Santa, but for me, they're the better times to share the Gospel, because Christmas is about the Savior's birth, while the Lent is about the Lord's sacrifice and resurrection. Read Jesus' stories to your kids and/or win a soul to God by sharing him/her what Jesus had done for us.

I agree with you totally on this and so much commercialization has actually taken away some of my enjoyment of the holidays. I do my best to celebrate them in my own way making sure to give the glory where it belongs, to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. I'm afraid I don't have any creative ideas for Easter but to make sure to spend lots of time in the scriptures and I've started a tradition of watching the movie "The Passion of the Christ". I watch it other times but on Easter/Resurrection Sunday I think it's particularly fitting.

I just tune the rest of the commercial stuff out and celebrate my way. Some of it's fun for the kids and they should know what it's all about, which is the parents responsibility. What I do is do the kid thing with the Easter Baskets and candy and try to put a booklet or something that talks about the real reason for Easter and Jesus.

My suggestion is don't celebrate them at all. Christmas and Easter has nothing to do with the Lord. They are both Pagan in origin. Easter is only mentioned once in the Bible and that is a bad mistranslation. It should have been passover. Christmas is never mentioned. These are actually holidays that were done in honor of pagan dieties long before the birth of Christ. You can enter them in the search engine on your computer to find out more or go to www.graceandtruth.net for more truths. I hope this is helpful.

Oh I love Easter! Easter is when I get new chickens. You just can't find chickens year round here in Florida. They have them for sale at the tack shops and feed stores only around Easter.

Yeah I agree with you.you are right about easter and christmas. The lent days are more important for me , we have to come closer to god and have to have more faith on him.I dont like eating rather than forgetting about the god.
