What is the scariest movie you've ever seen?

The one movie that REALLY scared me was "The Exorcist". I have always been what you'd call a horror-movie-buff, but that one was the one that had me petrified from the word GO. Of course, I was 12 years old the first time I saw it (in the theater when it was re-released a few years after the initial release). What is the one (or two!) horror movie that really freaked you out?

Oh, my! Good discussion. Actually mine was "Kalifornia". I swear that I was schizo for two days afterwards. What was it about that film? It must have been the level of violence. I have seen other movies, like "The Grudge" and "Ringu" and "The Ring", but they didn't affect me. I guess I'm naturally creepy! I can't for the life of me remember a movie from my childhood that gave me any nightmares. Back then parents were pretty darn careful about what their kids could go see. I'm glad of it!

I've never heard of "Kalifornia". Sounds creepy . . . You're right about how parents were "back in the day" . . . I remember wanting to watch "Rosemary's Baby" when I was about 12 years old, and my mother wouldn't let me, and I was sooooo ticked! LOL

Definitely, Exorcist. And the fact that it exists in real life. Some other movies would be Friday the 13th. Though, I didn't enjoy Freddy vs. Jason. It was just too much and the plot was just plain.

I think that's what got me - the fact that possession can and does happen in real life.

I've had nightmares for a week after seeing "The Grudge" (the japanese original version) two years ago. It was freeeaaakyy.. and my mind would just suddenly imagine things that I saw from the movie especially the stairs scene where the freaky girl climbed down upside down. Geez.. never watched it again ever!!

I am not into horror movies and avoid them because I creep myself out when I am alone in my room but there was this one film that had me glued to the T.V. from start to finish and when it ended, I got chills and sleepless nights....Jeepers Creepers is my all time favorite horror movie...there are scarier ones I'm sure but when you get to watch how it ends...

Most definitely The Exorcist for me too. I was probably around 12 the first time it was on at my house. My brother watched it to torment me. I was a little bit of a scaredy cat and we were home alone. I stood right outside the door of the den because I was too afraid to go in the room with him and had seen the previews and could hear the movie and was afraid to leave the doorway. It aired again when I was about 15 and after just seeing the previews of it I had to sleep with my parents for two weeks. Twice they had to come get me out of my bed screaming from a nightmare. I saw it for the first time when I was in college. Just the thought of that one sends chill bumps up and down my spine.

Stephen King's Misery, directed by Rob Reiner. Kathy Bates was absolutely terrifying! She was so convincing in her role, I thought she really deserved her oscar when she won for the best actress in a leading role in 1991.

ok this will be corny, but "the ring" freaked me out. not the whole plot of the tape that kills you, but that kid! she was very creepy. i cant watch horrors with children in them, they are the worst for me. OH OH and "The Omen"! those were scary too, i loved them.
