Do you think DOGS are good substitutes for SECURITY GUARDS ?

I hope this post won't sound too absurd to you. Well, I was just wondering what your views are on "guards" for some properties. As visible, rich people hire security guards to protect their properties. But there are some cases though that these security guards somehow fall asleep especially when assigned to night shifts. And I guess that already defeats their purpose. However, there are also some people who just rely to their watchful dogs to guard their properties and house. And they're pretty satisfied with the performance with their "guards". And add to that their chance of saving the money which they would be paying is they are to hire a security guard. :P If you were the "rich man" who needs to get some guard to always be on the look out for your property, would you rather get a watchful trained dog, or would you stick with the human security guard? why so? do share your thoughts. :P

well i have a dog named natz, he is really a very small dog but recently he learned how to bark like a very BIG dog and i am sure anyone that will try getting into my house will think there is an animal that is waiting for him on the other side and would think twice before trying to enter. i know my cousins also have 2 big dogs that protect the house very good. they do not need other security guards system. i would rather get a watchful trained dog then human security guard. it is cheaper and i do think it can be better:)

yeah, I agree with you, sometimes a good trained dog can protect his masters even better than the real guards could. thanks for responding. :)

If I were a rich man, I will hire a security guard with a dog for his back up. The security guard, being a human being, will have his lapses. So, I will get a dog to boost the guard's capabilities. If the guard dozes off to sleep or becomes too relaxed, the dog is there to warn him and wake him up when something else is happening in the surroundings. We know how sensitive these dogs are. We are even relying upon them to let us know if someone gets into our yard without our knowledge. And to think that we are counting on the help of untrained dogs.

I'm not sure if they're the best security guards, but they are cheaper. The problem is that they can't tell the difference between a friendly visitor and a real intruder. Human guards would probably be a little better because they can interact with the person and determine this for themselves.

ummm nice point there, darlene.. I missed that one.. lol thanks for stressing that one though..true indeed, human guards can distinguish friends from intruders, unlike the dogs.. thanks for the response. :)

I had a German Shepherd dog his name was "Rex" he would alway guard our house and family 7/24 he lets us know if there is something out there even if we can't see or hear it he has a very good nose to smell. His father was a k-9 police dog maybe that ;s why he was like that genetic. It doesn't materif you are rich or not they will guard you.

True, a dog would always be loyal to his master regardless if you are rich or poor. thanks for the response, aprilgrl.

i would definitely stick with a human security guard (even i think he can be cannot be trusted)but given a chance i would rather put up top of the line security devices. I mean really top of the line.. security that shoot laser those kind of stuff. =)

Its good to have security guards as they have a sense of thinking... but have dog is better options for security together with the security guards...

if im a rich woman then i will have them both and even bulgar alarm as well...who knows how people think now a days?? joke ok...anyway i will not depend my life and property on them..i must first depend my life to God alone and all those things are just secondary precautions to me..

Although dogs that are trained for security do make good protectors, there still is that need for some kind of human attachment. No matter how smart a dog seems to be he or she does not have the human ability to make split second decisions.

Definitely not. They complement the guards but they can never be complete substitutes. They are loyal and steadfast, true, but you need a human brain sometimes. :P

If I were the rich man, I will have two big bulldogs and a human as security guard. The security guard can look to the 2 bulldogs for protection. I do not think dogs are good substitues for security guards. Dogs are only good for frightening intruders, and besides they may be poisoned by scheming intruders, and lose their effectiveness :P Properties can be stolen by familiar people. Only security guards will be able to recognise and identify who went into the house. or who not to allow to go into the house. You cannot tell a dog to bar a particular person into the house.

Dogs with security guy. - Dogs are good substitutes of guards as they are very good and they don;t fal asleep during night.
I love dogs and I had a very loyal dog few years back. He is still alive but is not with me anymore. We have kept him on farm house for security purpose only. So, you must have got what I have to say. Yes, dogs can be good substitutes for security guards. Basic benefit is security guards can be bribed and can think of their bad and good but dogs are like they won't leave anybody if they find danger to place they are living at.

if i was a rich man i would hire both the dog for day shift and a security guard for night shift that way the dog wont be tried during the day and can get sleep all night.

Not really. I think that they scare people especially if they are placed near the gate. Our dog in my parent’s house is placed at the side part of our house because it barks when there’s visitors and it really is disturbing at first. I think they may help in some ways like barking when they see unusual things or people around your house but not necessarily making dogs as what security guards do.

no i dont think that dogs can permanently take the position of security guards in any kind of industry as animal is animal and can come to his animal behaviour anytime on anyone.

No I don't think so. People have reason. Dogs only know what to do if they see someone they don't know or whatever. They can't decide if the person is in need of "attack" or whatever.

You are right bro, But the thing is that What if someone comes and puts meat in front of the dog and easily go inside. What will happen then.

well having guard dogs has its perks but there are some breeds that are potentially dangerous. Some owners of these "Guard Dogs" dont really bother training them giving them proper commands like stopping or heel. Some that I have encountered as so ferocious that they dont seem like dogs anymore but beasts. SO I'd rather have a nosy security guard who descerns rather than a potentially dangerous animal to guard me.

maybe for warning but not necessarily for defense.
