Do you return clothes to the store after wearing them once? I have a sister in law who does this on a regular basis. She buys a dress wears it one evening then returns it to the store. Not always the same store but another branch in a different town. She might go to a big 'do' and need a new dress so she goes out and buys the best then returns it. The thing is she could afford to buy the dress anyway. I think its a selfish thing to do. Is this a habit of yours too?

Never. It is not only fraud, but lying and stealing. I feel embarrassed to return something for legitimate reasons, but this is because I know there are people who deliberately defraud companies, and thereby other customers. One of my relatives works on the returns counter of a major department store. She tells of people who buy sheets and towels because of guests coming, and then return them afterwards. It is obvious, but the company policy is to accept them. They can tell that clothing has been worn, but they refund anyway. These items usually end up in the "bargain bins".

Wow! hehehe! What a habit! I'm not a big fan of the "buy-wear-and-return".. I'm the kind who buy clothes, slacks, shirts in 5-15 minutes time frame then hurries home to sit down in front of my computer. I can't stand loitering in malls and stores... NO window shopping for me too! hehehe. I usually head for the proper section in malls to buy clothes I need, look for the color or design that pleased me, then zero it down to my size and pay at the counter. And I'm done. I usually shop alone. I find it unnerving if I get to shop with my girlfriend... Too many hops and stops inside the mall before zeroing on buying those things I need. hehehe!

I have heard of so many people who do this but I just couldn't do it. I often buy expensive clothes for special occasions, wear them once and then leave them sitting in the wardrobe. I don't feeel I am ready to give them away even though I know I will wear them again, but I woudn't dream of taking them back to the shop. This would be against my principals.

Oh my - no I don't. Meaning no disrespect to your sister-in-law, but I think that's just so cheap and tacky. As you say - it is selfish! There are hire shops out there if you need a formal outfit for a one-off occasion, and don't want the expense of buying one, - but what she does is awful! Sorry!

I agree that it's very selfish. I have heard that people do this and actually get away with it. I went to a very upscale department store and bought a designer dress. When I brought it home I saw it had a big stain on it and I promptly returned it to the store. I pointed out the stain to the sales woman and she apologized to me and even said that it might have been worn previously. Thankfully, they didn't think I did it.

No I would never do that. Not because it think it's something that shouldn't be done, I just wouldn't do it since I would want to keep the clothes if I like it.

NEVER! NOt in a million years. I would be too embarrassed. Around here they have caught on to people like that. The tags have to be on the dress to return it and there is also a time limit that you have to return formal clothing. I could not imagine wearing a dress with a sales tag tucked in under my arm all night.

LoL, not quite, actually I never did it because I would feel ashamed. But there were times when I bought some bit more expencive clothing that later proved to be over priced (got broke or teared without wearing) and I didn't feel ashamed to ask for my money back!

Oh, I wish we could do that here in our country. You can only return dresses if it's damage (in some stores) but some international stores do allow customers to return clothes so long as they are still in a saleable condition. Maybe I'll do it but only once or twice, not every time. It would feel like cheating if I do it every time. :)

NO I have never done this myself. My mother has a friend who used to do this until her husband put his foot down and made her stop. She would buy something, tuck the tags in and wear it a couple of times then take it back. Her husbands last straw was when they went to church and the tag came untucked and she didn't realize it. So, she doesn't do that anymore!

No, I've never done this, and I don't like it when people do this. It's wrong. Besides, if I was buying clothes, I'd want to keep them. And of course, I wouldn't want to do something that isn't morally right. That's pretty much lying. What does she say, that she just wants to return it? Or does she think up an excuse, like it doesn't fit or she got it as a present but already has the exact same thing? Anyway, have a great :)

no i haven't whatsoever. i would not do that ever just for the simple fact that i donot do things that might humilaite and degrade me. however, i have exchanged my new, never worn dress time and again. here i would like to share a story. one acquaintance of my friend had once returned a pair of shoes after wearing it for a week or so!! now that is not done. she had worn it, flaunted it and cleaned the sole and returned it and bought another two pairs of shoes!! the vendor didn't even raise his brows. i think that is how some ppl are- careless, selfish and sloppy.

i have never tried that. it's pretty hard to do here in my country. usually there's a "no return no exchange" policy in shops. they only accept exchanges if there are damages in the clothes.. but i would really love to try that, just for once. lol.

No, I have never done that. I agree with you it seems pretty selfish to "borrow" a dress from a store, because in reality that is what she is doing if she wears it and returns it to get her money back! I would imagine pretty soon, she is going to run out of stores or they will all catch on to her and refuse the returns. At least here all stores have you fill out stuff with your name and address and phone number when you are making a return and they put it into a computer, and some of the stores you can only have a certain amount of returns without a reciept, and with a reciept they still monotor what you are returning and how many times you've returned something in a 365 day period.

No it's not one of mine, when I buy something I keep it I just love to have a lot of clothes and I hang on to them or donate them if I don't want them anymore.
