Cliques in Adults

When you go to work, to a party, or even a new gym, do you feel that there are cliques even as an adult? In highschool the jocks are prone to be the highest in rank, then there are the middle level groups who sort of fit in, and then we have the wannabes or outcasts. Sad, but true. What about as adults? Does anyone feel that those awful labels and cliques still exist, or is it just that those insecurities haven't gone away completely for some? Did the tables turn for anyone who may have been the outcast who now is the one everyone wants at their party?

I think people just naturally divide into groups based on what they have in common. I don't see what used to be 'geeks' in high school as any lower or higher than the 'jocks', just different. I am just not the type of person to fit easily into a group, because I seriously lack the herd mentality. I don't go along with the crowd, I find my own way, research things without relying on 'experts', and just don't do things for the sake of conformity. Anyway, the 'minivan/soccer moms', the 'bible thumpers', and the 'suit and tie bunch' are all the same to me - groups of people who hang out together because they have something in common. None is better or worse than the other, in my view.

Sometimes, I think the adult cliques are worse than the high school cliques. Not in the minds of the teens though! At my work place we have an office that is always in a clique type situation. It is very hard on new employees there as they are always p[lanning things or doing things without the new person, in front of the new person. They think they are better than the rest of he building. Then there is the group that works because they want to not because they have to and spends money like crazy and looks down on those of us that just can't do that. It is very hard to deal with sometimes. I was in the lower middle class category in school. I have strived to join in the middle class category now as an adult. I have lived in the lower class category as an adult and really don't like that. Being poor and without Sucks!! I have no desire to be in the upper class as most of them are just snobs, and the competition to stay there is tremendous.
