Word count. A novel contains at least 120,000 words. A book can contain anywhere from 80,000 to 120,000 words. A novella has 60 to 80,000 words. I only know this because my brother has finally finished writing his book, only to find that to reach novel status, he has to add an additional 40,000 words. So he is working on expanding his chapters and maybe adding a chapter or two.

Thanks, I'd better start thinking long and hard about if I actually want to write the novel I always dreamed of doing. 120,000 words is a lot :-)

Yeah, a novel containing 120,000 words may be around 480 pages. That's quite a bit of writing. What are you considering writing?

Oh I have an idea for a children's story - it's something I have been thinking about for years and I have little notes everywhere - just never sat down to get on with it

I don't understand what you mean for a novel may printed into a book. Do you mean the difference between a novel and something else like a short story or prose, etc?

You know what? She's right. I'm completely wrong. I misunderstood what Darren was telling me. http://www.agentquery.com/format_tips.aspx
