Have you ever had a few items in your cart, so you go to one of these express check-out lanes only to have some idiot in front of you with 100 items? Well this just happened to my hubby at WalMart and he got fed up, the people had 2 carts full of items. He told them they shouldn't be there, so the cashier called management. She was cool with it, but my husband was obviously mad. The manager thought the cashier was being stupid and made her unring what she had already scanned and had the customers switch lines, my husband said behind them there were 10 other customers. So if this has or were to happen to you, would you speak up? Or just ignore the situation?

This is one of my pet peeves! This is what i do if i see one of the purps in line: Oh, excuse me. (pause while getting their attention) Have they opened this lane up to more than 10 items? (You will usually get the "i don't know what you are talking about look')This is where I say, the sign says 10 or more items, and I know that sometimes they open up this lane for more items, but the store didn't really look that busy today...(pause again briefly) and say...so have they opened up this lane for 10 items? You will either get the "i'm sorry and they leave" or allow you to go in front of them or the 'shut the ___ up". i love the "shut the ___ up", that's where i get to say to the cashier, "did you hear them threaten me, please security immediately, I am being threatened by a possible terrorist.

oooh good ideas! When I was a cashier and I was operating the express lane, I'd always look down the line and remind customers that it was 10 items or less!

I am patient and take the time to just be when something happens like this. It is up to the cashier to say something to the customer. Calling the manager then and there would be done if the customer would not switch. Anyway, there is no reason to get upset. All kinds of people do things all the time and we hope those in authority take care of it. Your hubby did ok, speaking for what is right can sometimes be hard and yet he did just right this time.

Since I am a former cashier, I definately would have said something to these people. I would have said "Excuse me ma'am/sir, but this is an express lane for TEN items or LESS. Since you have more items you need to go to another register. I definately wouldn't go to this register if I had more items." If they didn't move, I would say protest more, and I think the manager was right to do that. It isn't fair to have to wait. Have a nice day. Pablo

lol, so, unringing all the items and passing back to the customer to put in her carts so that she can mosey on over to another lane probably took longer than if they just continued with the transaction. Do you know that if you have several of the same product it is considered one item? I have had it happen from time to time that a cashier would direct me to their register in the express lane when I had obviously more groceries than the stated amount allowed. I have had management tell me to go to an express lane when I had way too many for it. It is their way of keeping things moving, if there is no one at the express lane - that aisle can be used by someone with too many items.... it sure gets embarrassing though, when after you start getting your items rung up someone comes behind you with 2 or 3 products! makes you want to hide your face because they tend to rash judge you as being rude and inconsiderate by using the express lane, when in actuality the cashier or management directed you to be there in the first place! On another note, whenever someone with only a handful of items comes up behind me in line, and I have several items, I will give to them my place in line.

I've been next to the express lane with a full week's worth of groceries and had the checker tell me to just come over to the empty express lane. It's pretty rare that I notice someone in express with too many items- but maybe that's because I am never in the express lane myself.
