I just spent the day out of town at my parents house and pretty much spent the day getting Mom's computer back in shape. As well I just responded to another user with a simular issue and thought that I would post this perhaps you can use the info too. Like you car your computer need some maintence from time to time. First clean it up Run your disk cleaner and get rid of the temporary files after a while these files build up and begin top bog your system down. There are two programs that you can use to help with this the first is CCleaner ( short for crap cleaner ) this does an excellent job of disposing of the junk files on your system. The second is Ashampoo's win optimizer 4. This offers the ability to dump all the junk and optimize your system. Also check your start up for programs that you do not use that are set to load when your system boots up. A word of advice though DO NOT STOP ANYTHING IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT IT IS. Once you have cleaned it up and slimed the start up defragment your system. Hope this helps.

Just thought I'd put in my two cents.... if you have alot of things on your desk top, that slows down your computer, too. If there's something on there that you don't use alot, you can take that off and use the start button to get to it.

Good point. Particularly with with windoxs XP. All of the added graphics do use additional memory.

Hello Impervious! I'm glad to see others take the time to help family members with computer tweaks that can really help speed up their computers capabilities. I have used CCleaner and have to say it's a wonderful program since it will even delete some files that can't be deleted with the standard cleanup tools available on most computers. Since deletions can't be undone, I suggest being cautious about deleting too much until you know for sure it won't cause some of your applications to quit functioning. After almost a week away from my computer while I was on vacation, I got to tweak a few of the inlaws computers over the Easter holiday. The area they are in only allows for dialup service so it was slow going to speedup both of their computers but after seeing how much faster they ran after tossing their cookies & doing a defrag, I'm glad I did it for them. I sure was glad to get back to mine though. I love my roadrunner account not only for the speed but for all the extra services I get with it too. :)

Mine is just straight up anciently old and I have dial up. Like who has dial up anymore. It's less expensive and sometime I have to wait l0-15 minutes but that's ok for $10 a month

I too am stuck with dial up. I am using net zero 3G it's about 15 a month but there is a difference. Especially after tweaking the connection with Ashampoo.
