I think in the very beginning of organized religion, certain groups tried to force their beliefs on others and, in return, those other people broke off into other groups and formed their own belief system. Unfortunately, we have similar things happening today all over the world. There's room enough on this earth for many varied belief systems without infringing on others' rights. All paths lead to God.

Because no one religion can contain the whole truth of God and spirituality. So many wonderful prophets have come to this Earth and tried to share with the masses what they knew or learned. Unfortunately most people were not ready to hear these messages or understand them. Because they were not understood properly they became religions. Every religion carries a piece of the Spiritual truth. The reason that they fight so often is because each one of these religions believes they are the ONLY truth instead of simply a part of it.

Because people come from different places, have different experiences, and think of things in different ways. Even if we were all looking at the same spiritual being(s), we would see them in different ways. Hence, different religions.
