High School Diploma or G.E.D. ?

Okay, so when I was in high school I hated it, and wanted out fast. I also wanted to go college as soon as possible, so I thought about it and decided to drop out. Sounds bad I know, but to the contrary I went and attained my G.E.D. in only a week. Now I was 16 at that time and enrolled in an Art college, majoring in graphic design. Now my question to you guys is would it have made a difference if I had gone the extra 2 years in high school and graduated, then gone to college at the age I am now? Does it really matter, in the long run, which method you choose? I mean I'm almost finished with college now, and if I had waited to get my diploma I would have just begun college. Was it just my impatience or was it really a good idea? Please tell me what you think?
