Why do humans like violence?

Whether we are willing to admit it or not, we all like violence. If it makes us cringe or make the hairs on the back of our necks stand up, we can't keep from peeking from behind our hands. Take hockey for instance, we cheer when someone gets knocked around or jumped on in football. The more gruesome, the better. Think of a car accident senario. How often is traffic backed up because of drivers slowing down to get a better look? I don't know about you, but I root for the bad guy in movies.
