too many news channels- has it helped people?

Today we find countless news channels on TV. Do you think its beneficial? The channels due to competition in their feild, tear off the news to such an extent that it becomes boring. Life of celebrities is no more personal. If Amitabh falls ill,each thing from the tests to the recovery is followed up. Each channel shows its news to be a BREAKING NEWS, though the news may already be broken into fragments. The 24 hr news is better or the half an hour news which we used to hear and see with great intrest?
