My kid loves peanut butter. Last night, he ate bread with peanut butter and when he woke up, he is not feeling well. He has not eaten anything yet. He vomited twice already and he is giddy. Could the peanut butter have upset his stomach?

Yes, it could very well have upset his stomach, if he otherwise is healthy. Peanut butter is heavy with oil and it can make someone feel nauseated if they eat too much.

This vomiting occurence has happened last month also. Do you think he has gotten allergic to peanut butter? Is it possible to develop allergic reactions to it? Or just as you said, it may just be too much oil causing it? Thanks.

As others have already mentioned, a peanut allergy is one of the things I think of too. Unfortunately that means he shouldn't eat it anymore. His allergic reactions will just get worse. You could always get him tested for allergies by a doctor if you want? I'm allergic to eggs. They upset my stomach, so I just don't eat them anymore. I like them, but the upset stomach isn't worth it! Not too long ago was a MAJOR recall of Peter Pan peanut butter and the walmart brand of Great Value peanut butter due to salmonella or e-coli. I forget which, but do remember they said NOT to eat it. Hopefully your peanut butter isn't from either of those brands?

Our peanut butter is not the Peter Pan brand and the other one from Walmart. I have not allowed him to eat the peanut butter yet and he's not vomiting anymore. If I let him have the peanut butter and his stomach reacts again, I will have him tested for allergy. Thanks.

Hi. Two days ago I had 2 peanut butter sandwiches (my wife had 4) and within 2 hours got *I* got indigestion - I threw up all night and am stll sick 2 days later with a shaky stomach and lots of diarrhea. My wife did fine so we discounted the peanut butter as the cause - she even ate 2 more sandwiches the next day. Now I'm still sickish and she got an upset stomach. This was great value peanut butter from walmart but was only bought in the last week. We had eaten nothing else recently. I wonder if it's e.coli or salmonella ? Thanks John Hansen

You should check the expiration dates on everything he ate yesterday. You mentioned in another post that he threw up last month as well, is this the same jar of peanut butter? If so, it may just be expired.

It was not the same peanut butter. It was a new one. My other child ate it also and she did not vomit. I guess my son just had an upset stomach. After that incident, he's okay already.

it could be he is algeric to something in it. alot of peopel cant have peanut oil or nuts altogether. if it is the same jar of peanut butter that he is getting sick from it might be that jar. you never know. i would get a different jat and try it out. if he still gets sick then i would try just a peanut or try something else that has peanut oil in it and see if that is what it is. or you can go to the doctor and have them run a test. the test though cost alot so if the insurance doesnt cover it or you have none you may want to try to old fashion way which is what i said above. peanut allergy though is something you will want to find out if he has. there are alot of things that are cooked in the oil and you dont realize it. that and if it is the nut itself it would be good to know as well. like in school they would need to know this.

you are more then welcome. alot of peopel dont relize how common it is to be allergic to nuts or peanuts. there are some that it is considered to be deadly for them. i doubt if his is that serious or you would already be at the er though. it is good that you noticed though cause alot of parents dont. i have one daughter that cant eat pears and she loves them i have to watch her or she will try and eat them lol.

Maybe I will test if his vomiting comes back after I give the peanut butter. If it comes back, I'll have him tested for allergy if he had developed something. Thanks for the advise.

The Peanut butter could have been the cause, But he could also have the flu bug that seems to be floating around. I would just offer a lot of fluids for the day and let him ride it out poor thing ......I hope that he is feeling better really soon! Keep us posted Stacy

I gave him Gravol and it seemed to stop the giddiness and the vomiting. He has an appetite now and eating small portions. I hope he's really okay now. Thanks Stacy.

I forgot to mention that he had the stomach flu probably 3-4 weeks ago. That's why I got worried that he felt giddy and vomited this morning. I thought it may not be possible that the flu is back again. So I had to know if he may have a certain allergic reaction to something. Thanks for all your advise and all the information you all shared.
