"_____________." How many of you correctly filled in the blank to the first line of the Eagles' "Hotel California" I wonder? http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/eagles/hotelcalifornia.html I'm listening and singing along to this song on the radio and I'm thinking about myLot. Why couldn't I come up with any ideas for a discussion. All I can think of are songs, songs, songs. Not surprisingly, this discussion came to mind. What's your impression of this song? This was one of the greatest songs during its time. A lot of rumors about it had been going around then. Some say this song is somehow connected with satanism. Does my memory serve me right? How true is this? I was too young to care and pay attention then. Now, I'm curious. Can anyone satisfy my curiousity? It's taxing going through searches. I don't even know if what they are putting there is true. I have more trust in myLotters' opinion, that's for sure. So please drop in a few lines. Thanks in advance and I'm looking forward to all your responses. Happy posting!

HI lasaku. You are so right. Eagles rock! Yipee! Nevermind the rumor hehehe I'm just curious if anyone could tell me if indeed there was substance to it. I guess it was just a rumor. Thanks. Have a great day!

the eagles - talk about the classics
On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim I had to stop for the night. I could go on but you get the point. Man what a classic huh.

Totally! Thank you for singing it to me. You were singing right? And not just reciting the lyrics. I can still hear you in my head or is it just me? ; Have a great time posting!

This along with witchy woman deals with Satan/ocult. As far as I know this is the truth. The whole family loves this group, our faves being Lying Eyes. We play this a lot in the car and sing a long with them - my son gives me a row for singing the wrong words. but I think my words are better anyway lol xx

Oh, sweet memories of my youth! I knew, it's going on 'cool wind in my hair'. I still love it. I never thought it could somehow connected with satanism but I pretended it's about a ghost hotel, somewhere in the desert... The phrases like 'you can check up any time you like but you can never leave' etc. made me think that way. I remember, there is another great song on this LP, "New kid in town".

HI kiiizu. I also don't know that satanism was in any way connected to this song. I love "New Kid in Town" it's cool. Creepy isn't it this song "Hotel Califonia" makes you believe about supernatural things. Hope to hear more from you.

I can see that the whole lyrics has been ably given. I was thinking of putting on the cd to see the exact lyrics. nonetheless, i can see that there is no need for it. enjoy the song, we love to sing it on karaoke over here.

Even though I have heard the song a million times in my childhood, my brain skipped straight to the mission bells line. I don't liek that song. There is something about it that gives me the creeps. That's a trip that you say it has something to do with a rumour of satanism, because I always have an urge to to turn it off. It's like a bad dream I can't quite remember.

Hi seamonkey! I can just picture you listening to this song. Oh I would never turn it off even if it gives me the creeps..hehehe. Really really sick I know. I do like this song. It really makes you imagine those things they are singing. Like how would you like to be trapped inside a hotel, wanting to escape but never quite making it. And if you do, the experience never leaves you. Refreshing to have you here as one of my friends say.

...cool wind in my hair. I LOVE the Eagles! Hotel California was the first CD that I bought. I don't think it's connected to satanism. It does talk about a form of hell and how they could never leave and how they couldn't kill the beast...but they WANTED out. So there! I don't think it was just one of the greatest songs of its' time. I think it's timeless. My kids love that CD too. Man! Now that song is stuck in my head!

Cool wind in my hair! OOps sorry for screeching! I really love this song and most other Eagles songs I have heard too sweety! As far as I am aware this song isn't really about satanism but the sort of he11 most of us can trap ourselves in and how hard it is to escape from! Could be wrong though it is just my interpretation of the song! Good to see you sweets! xxx

I don't know much about this song but I do love it, it's the only song of the eagles that I know, I remember hearing other songs for them long ago but nothing sticks to my mind.. I'm not sure how old is it, it was a kind of 'oldy' when I first hear it, I really like it and I don't think it relates to satanism, just a nightmarish dream like experience.. like one of these horror or mystery movies but although you hear it and not watching it; you can live it vividly :)

I am not sure if i have heard that rumor. Maybe it's just some bad publicity. You know, when bands are at the peak of their success all kinds of things about them are published and spread around. Most of these things are not even true. I like the song though. It's cool.

I don't think it is about satanism. I think it is about adictions. "You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave." Deep.
