so what language do you think sounds more better? If you had a choice to learn the language what would you prefer? Do you think mandarin is more useful or cantonese is more useful?

I think that Mandarin is more useful than Cantonese. The Chinese lived in the south of China can not understand cantonese well, but all the people in China can understand Mandarin well. For instance, if Cantonese is Japanese English, then Mandarin is American English. Do you want to learn Japanese English or American English?

i prefer mandarin than cantonese because in overseas chinese communities, it widely spoken.it is the second most widely spoken language in the world next to english.mandarin romanization is smart easier to read through hanyu pinyin,so that even foriegners can easily study the language.there are some change in the phonetics of the english alphabets.all of the english alphabets except v is present in hanyu pinyin romanization.cantonese is a dialect spoken mostly in hong kong.but mandarin is still the one i prefer because many people in the know or fluent in this language.

I thing mandarin is only used mostly for formal thing. But most peoples speak cantonese. I personally prefer cantonese as it is easier to understand cantonese rather than mandarin. I am not a chinese speaker, but I watch a lot of cantonese drama on tv and sometimes I can get the meaning of what they talking even though there were no subtitle there.

i think mandarin sounds much nicer. cantonese sounds a bit rough, to me. if i had a choice i'd learn mandarin! i so wanna learn that language but i haven't got the time and money T_T ..in my country, both mandarin and cantonese are useful since it's widely spoken and if mandarin/cantonese is not your mother tongue, knowing the language makes it an advantage. wish someone could teach me mandarin .

hmm.. I think mandarin is more useful.. Many of us had heard about that mandarin is getting more into international.. therefore I think people should learn mandarin for their own sake.. Well, I speak mostly in mandarin in my daily life and I think it is really as important as english..^^

i speak both of them coz im born in hong kong and we have to lean mandarin. my friend told me that cantonese is the most difficult language to learn in this world coz it has 9 tones. (are they "tones"?) haha im quite proud of being a cantonese that i learn this language with no difficulty at all. i have to say that mandarin is more useful nowadays.

a lot of people in china speak mandarin. i, myself, speak cantonese. a lot of my friends speak cantonese and not mandarin so for where i live, i think cantonese is more useful. i also think that cantonese sounds better than mandarin but i could be biased since i wasnt born learning mandarin as a first language.
